I'm usually in the camp of no-extended-warranty buyers.

Then Edmunds did that beat the F-150 with a sledgehammer bit, and this line showed up.

$1,738.44 for other repairs like the tail light assembly, which costs $887 since it houses the Blind Spot Monitoring System and the LED accent light. A “regular” tail light assembly would have only cost $106.
That has me re-thinking my opinion, since I would get a "high-tech" version with BLIS etc., and electronics and computers being what they are makes me leery.

Maybe buying electronics failure insurance (warranty) might not be a bad idea on a high-end truck. As long as it covers the major electronic components.

After my 3,000 dollar transmission rebuild in my Toyota Tacoma with only 90,000 miles I'd say it's a crapshoot no matter who you go with. Since Toyota has already burned me I'll probably try a Ram next if the Ford doesn't work out. Well doesn't improve since I've already had a 1500 dollar repair that was thankfully under warranty.

I bought an 8 yr./75,000 bumper to bumper for 2295 dollars from Ford. I thought this was a fair price

It's not a fair price.

Do a google search for Zeigler Ford ESP. According to their website, and assuming you have 4WD, a zero deductible, 8 yr., 75,000 mile PremiumCare ESP plan can be had for $1,840. If you use the promo code GREGH, you get a $225 discount, giving you a price of $1,615. That will save you $680. If you opt for $200 deductible, with the promo code, it's $1,175. That would save you $1,120.

For less than what you paid, assuming a $50 deductible, and the promo code, you could have gotten 8 yr., 125,000 mile coverage under the PremiumCare plan.

I hope I don't come off sounding critical here. I just don't want to see someone get screwed on price.

If I were you, I'd look into getting my money back and buying the cheaper plan from Zeigler.

I have posted this before as well as others. I have used Flood Ford in the past and they had always had the best rates (no promo code needed). If your 2WD they are cheaper than above with ZERO deductible.

I bought a 7yr/100000 mile/$200 deductible Ford PremiumCare warranty from the Flood Ford link above it was just under $1100. I thought that was fair since I intend to keep my truck all of those 7 years. Truck is a 2015 Lariat SuperCrew, FX4, 3.5 EB, 6.5' box, tech pkg, etc...

In the state of Florida, it is technically illegal for a dealer to discount an extended manufacturers warranty. Hypothetically speaking (as in I would never advise anyone to break the law), two possibilities come to mind:

1. Use an out of state address from a relative or friend to purchase the ESP. Or rent a PO Box to use as an address from the UPS Store (or similar business entity) at any location outside of the State of Florida for one month (about 15 to 20 dollars). Everything is done electronically these days.

2. Florida dealers do not pay more for Ford ESP's than non Florida Ford dealers. Although a dealer can not discount the warranty itself for a FL resident (as per Florida law), if you are purchasing a new vehicle and want to purchase the warranty from the same dealer as part of the same transaction (as in you want to include the cost of the warranty in the financing, or just give your local guy your business), the dealer could further discount the vehicle (and show it on the paperwork as such) by the amount that you would be able to purchase the warranty as though you lived in another state. Your dealership F&I guy has a head for numbers, and will understand this, just have your numbers in order going into the deal. You probably don't want to discuss this on the phone with him / her over the phone, or leave a paper trail of emails or texts relating to this subject.

This is all hypothetical conjecture and should not be taken as either legal advice or as an advocacy to follow this path.

I'd burn through a 125 k warranty in 3 years if I bought a new truck as a DD. I wish I could lower years and raise miles to unlimited ;-)

The one on my 2011 still has a ways to go (not my DD) and the extended warranty has almost paid for itself.

I actually am looking at these Ext, warranties now-as in this minute and using the links above for quick looks-thanks!
Background- I kept my last Tundra for 5.5 years and sold it with ODO @ 49k. As I've said (worn out in previous posts), it and the 3 trucks before it were zero dollars spent to fix them over a 15+ years period.
I thought why not take a look-as reality says I'm old now & getting older fast (joints are going kaput!) & thus worth looking!
I made a chart and I/we barely drive enough to use each period of the Ford basic OE warranty-meaning the 3/36 & the 5/60 portions. If I buy the premium Zeigler I pay $1,225 for 7 years w/$200 deductible which is probably beyond my trade newer date. The fact remains that I'm not really buying 7 years of coverage as my miles say it's really the 6th & 7th years I'm getting for mileage 60 through 75K for that $1,225. In my case, I pay at best, $1,225 for 15,000 miles in whats potentially my last year or so of ownership. Assuming it's transferable, it might also help sell the truck. Otherwise it's not likely to help me that much IMO, so I then looked at powertrain only and that comes in @ $825/$200 deductible. I still am not sold so I'll take my chances on this new Ford.
Bit deceiving to say 7 years when it's really 2 at most in my case?

The argument is much stronger for those that drive more but still lacks the miles factor to help many like post above.

It is worth mentioning that guys like me will be unable to access used parts on these trucks for a good while as the newness factor keeps the used parts market high and sparse! That will change as we keep these a few years and much stays the same vs. an old design that's bound to change soon-so it works both ways.
My last Ford warranty fiasco was having bought the Motor Trend Car of the year in 1990(paid off my house & farm and bought first new car in many years!) , was a Mazda AWD MPV van, my torque convertor went kaput at 50,200 miles. Towed it in, found the problem, ask Ford/Mazda dealer in Lex.,KY if they would cover it and told no. Found out the hard way that that torque convertor was not sized properly for it's service application. Chalk up some major bucks to car of the year? and nice dealer folks?
