Default Ford Engineering Questions Answered

If you could ask a ford engineer that designed the F150 what would you ask? Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll let one come on here to answer some questions.

I'd ask why they want a WDH only a quarter of the way back from the hitch with no WDH measurement. Most WDH manuals all ask to go back to unhitched measurement or at least 1/2 way back.

I'd also ask why they covered the front stake bed pockets.

Why was the tire size calibration removed from the list of dealer accessible settings?

Did you run out of money just before you designed the base headlights?

Why is the glove box, half the size of the glove box in my civic? Truck has a monster sized dash and a teeny tiny glove box. Looks like there should be room for a five gallon bucket sized glove box.

What's with the Bin in the top of dash panel?
What's with the short strap to release rear seat back?
What's with the pocket above the glove box?
What's with the loose wiper arms?
What's with thin paint on door bottom?
What's with door alinement ?
What's with the engine oil dip stick need to be 7'11 to reach?
What's with the water pump buried inside the engine 3.5
What's with Frozen door latches?
Where the hell did you get the windshield made?
How much money did you save omitting a Owner friendly Transmission dip stick?
Why is the Dealer cost to replace a Head light bulb over $110.00?

I've often wondered what the result would be if we changed the model of vehicle design. Instead of the "ground up" "all new" system we use now, or the "hold on to the model forever" some OEMs used in the past, we just made incremental changes based on real usage and feedback.

... then I see the list here. Glove boxes? Dash pockets? Location of the dipstick? And better headlights and bed rails are available from Ford, pay up if you want them.

At least the defective door latches we have been living with for two years made the list. Design by "wisdom of crowds" would be a mess.

I'd like to hear in detail how the failures of the recent past have been addressed in the 2017+ trucks. Door latches are one. Timing chains are another (albeit rare). Miss fires, and intercooler design. I know that Ford knows these things are real because there are TSB and design changes to address them. I just want the details of how they are making sure that they don't happen to future customers.

I would like to see factory dash cam system, front & rear with parking mode, bump& motion detection. I emailed them, got a response saying it was not in their plans.
