Ford ditches Microsoft Sync for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

The unkept promises Ford made about the features of MyFord(Lincoln)Touch (Sync 2.0) when first introduced back in 2010/11 - particularly with respect to Canadian buyers - makes me extremely skeptical many the things they brag about now will ever appear in a functional form in Sync 3.0.

Also why I posted about Android 'M'
Important because of the android integration, that fortunately Apple is taking into account.

Lord I can't remember many of them but there were going to be all sorts of apps like weather and sports updates, etc. The only app Canadians ever got was the one that dials 911 when you crash. And then there was using the display as a web browser and the wifi hotspot capability.
The really frustrating thing was how Ford cheaped out on the technology to begin with. Bottom of the barrel hardware components combined with a way over their head cut-rate programming crew using antiquated Adobe prototyping software. Remember that Ford didn't employ Microsoft to do the programming until they absolutely had to. They used a small company of mostly ex-Microsoft employees called B-Squared to do the initial work. I don't think that cost-savings move worked out well for them.

I so want a new truck already... but am forcing myself to wait until they get the new system... Though I've wondered... what's the chances you could get a new head unit/system and stick it in a '15 and it work? I'd lean towards saying 70% but I'm not sure if I want to take that risk...

I have had many vehicles in the past and I would always end up modifying the audio/infotainment system. But I'm tired of that, I just was a decent system from the mfg.
I thought I would get then 2014 model for now and trade it in or give this truck to my brother or friend and get myself a 2016 or 2017 model. I'm sure by then Ford would've made the switch and maybe they would've also brought in the 10spd tranny

The more these trucks are controlled by their OS, the more it influences my purchasing decision.
I got scoffed at on the other thread, for saying this, but if I know the 16/17 model year, would be mostly mechanically unchanged, but running software that was greatly improved. I would wait.
Having said that and being an Android fan. I'm not a hater of Sync, and if they kept Microsoft, I'd be okay with it. Although why Google Now picks up every word I say perfectly, and Sync can't, does irritate the hell out of me. So I'm looking forward to the change.

For me, the car's infotainment has huge influence on my decision when shopping for a new vehicle.
Having Android in the vehicle would be awesome. I just hope The quality of the Touchscreens are way better than they are now. Right now the touchscreen sucks in comparison to say a tablet. You can buy aftermarket optically bonded touchscreen panels that are capable of working in hot and cold environments and they resemble tablet. I would love it if they could put a HD or QHD screen in their like the one Tab S.
Off Topic: Google is taking over everything lol. It knows where you are with your location tracking on your Android phones. Nest is in your home as your thermostat and they also bought Dropcam so they have a visual. They know what you're into with your searches and chrome browser, emails, they know your friends via Google Plus. Now they'll be in our cars as well.
I know not everyone uses their products but Google has a good strategy, their end goal is knowing everything about the person so they can sell them some ****.

I'm with you on this one, I expressed my frustration with the Microsoft Sync in my first post.

I have a moonroof and glare has never been an issue.
Honestly, I think not worrying about scratching it, allows me to tap it with more confidence so the selection always happens.
Idk, I do know it looks like glass and it's much better looking.
You're right tho about Google. They figure you out and then 'Amazon' sells it to ya!
