Default Ford dealer reported "fraudulent" purchase to insurance after failed trade

So this is a first:

Was just negotiating with Champion Ford in Owensboro, KY on a vehicle trade.

We couldn't agree on price vs trade for a vehicle I was searching for, so they take it upon themselves to call my insurance company and report someone was trying to trying to make a "fraudulent purchase."

Being the Dick Tracy detectives they are, they came to this assumption because I made the mistake of sending them a copy of my insurance card, only because it contained the VIN number. Since the name on the insurance card didn't match the name the vehicle was being purchased in, they decided I was trying to trade in a stolen vehicle. I promptly let them know that it is possible for your wife to have just gotten married to you, and, that her maiden name was still on the insurance card, and that your family wants to buy a new F-150.

Complete idiots. If @FordService reads this, this would be great info to pass along to corporate because I am not real happy with them.

That's total BS. If they really believed that it was stolen they would have called the cops, not the insurance company. They just wanted to give you a hassle because you wouldn't make the deal.

Sad thing is, the sales manager at the dealer was the ring leader in the whole deal. Avoid Champion Ford like the plague.

Post that info on Google reviews as well as Facebook, might as well let more potential customers know how they operate. And you should contact Ford Motor Company.

Those dealers ruin the Ford customers buying and ownership experience! Ford should cancel their dealer contracts and make an example of them to all dealers.

But then again you need dealers to sell cars and that's all some manufacturers are interested in!

My thought: get the dealer principal, not a sales mgr or gen mgr, on the phone (or in person) and let him or her know what happened.

Probably got the info when they evaluated your trade in. I always pull the reg and insurance info when they go out to inspect my car....... Never give any info till you are sure you are going to buy.....
