Ford Bed Side Steps vs. AMP Research Bedstep 2
Ok, so I'm too short to reach stuff in the front of my bed without either climbing in or having to stand on the rear wheel. I'm getting tired of having to do that. I'm looking into getting a set of bed side steps. As far as I'm aware the only 2 options available to me are the Ford OEM bed side steps, and the AMP Research Bed Step 2.
As usual, the price of the Ford steps here in Canada is ridiculous at a little over $500 CAD each. I've seen bad reviews of these with them not extending properly, especially in cold weather. IMO definitely not worth the price they want.
The AMP Bed Step 2 is a couple hundred cheaper per side, just not sure on the quality. The way they extend seems to be less prone to issues, as I think they're just spring loaded. When extended they appear to be a little lower than the Ford steps, so you don't get to stand up quite as high on them. Also not sure how strong the spring mechanism is, and if they're prone to extending on their own when hitting bumps.
Anyone have any input on either?

Nobody tried the AMP Research Bed Step 2? Just looking for a bit of real world experience with them, as I'm leaning in that direction currently.

I have the Ford side steps and they work great. The only problem with them is they are a bit difficult to close but once you get used to them even that isn't a problem.

I'm probably much shorter (I'm 5'2"). The box-sides are a necessity for me even to reach things near the edge. I can only comment on the OEM box-side steps -- except for some stiffness in going back in after use, it has been otherwise very helpful.

I would probably go with the Ford steps, But $500 (CAD, from the dealer) per side seems like way too much.
I didn't even know those Carr steps existed, thanks for the link. I'll look into those. Anyone have any experience with these Carr steps or the AMP Bed Step 2? The price is much better on either, I'm just concerned about quality...

I heard back from Carr. Not good news:
Currently we do not have an application for the 2015-2016 F-150’s as the new aluminum body style is much different.
We are working on products for that vehicle. I do not have any release dates so please check our website occasionally for updated information.
Too bad, because I found some on Amazon.ca for $177 CAD per side. So a fraction of the price of the other 2 options.
So looks like I'm back to deciding between the Ford steps and the AMP steps (for which I'm hoping for some real world feedback from someone). As well as spending much more $ than I want to...
