Default flimsy, hard to read dipstick 2.7 EB

Maybe it's just me... but the very flimsy, long dipstick in the 2.7 EB seems odd. Hard to put back in and even harder to read because it's not easy to pull it out straight. got my first oil change done at the dealer and it appears that both holes on the dipstick are oil-covered (after 15min waiting)... yet dealer receipt says 6qtz of oil only.

Do you know how much oil your supposed to put in the truck? 6 Quartz for the Eco boost.

I know that.... i just hope the Dealer knows that as well... hence me trying to verify if they didn't overfill but the dipstick makes an accurate reading very hard

Great to know someone knows how long you need to wait before checking the oil level on a 2.7L

SSM 45425 - 2015-2016 F-150, 2016 MKX And 2015 Edge - 2.7L - Appear To Have Low Oil Level

Some 2015-2016 F-150, 2016 MKX and 2015 Edge vehicles equipped with a 2.7L engine may appear to have low engine oil level if the proper procedures are not followed. Refer to the Owners Guide, Maintenance, Engine oil check section. When checking the engine oil level after shutting off the engine wait at least 15 minutes prior to checking in order to allow the oil to drain back to the oil pan. The engine oil level can be checked immediately if the engine has not been started. When changing the engine oil the engine needs to be at normal operating temperature and the oil filter removed before draining the oil. Allow the oil pan to drain completely for up to 5 minutes. Check oil level after filling by following the oil level check procedure

You're not the only one. The dipstick is very long and very supple. There's no way I could put it back in place without holding it near the hole. I assume it is so yielding for a reason. The 'oil ribbon' [it's not a 'stick'] probably has to fit around some curves. Reading it is difficult, but that's always the case for me. Part of it may be that with synthetics, until they are near the end of their life, they're so slick, they flow on the 'ribbon' and thus are indistinct.

Same here. I have a 6x6x 18 block that gets me high enough to see where it is.

Yeah it does have quite a ways down to go snaking behind the exhaust and turbos. Tbh the old 300 six and the 5.4had pretty long dipsticks too. I actually wish this one stuck out a couple more inches so it would be easier to reach.

If your dealer didn't wait long enough for the drain, you will be over-filled. The FULL mark is the half-way point in the hash marks.

On my 15 2.7 I ground 2 small notches in the side corresponding to the full and add marks on the stick, I also used a course grinder to rough up the back side makes it a little easier to read.
also keep in mind the dipstick on the 2.7 does not go into the main sump but rather into a separate chamber. oil enters or leaves this chamber through a small valve or orifice so if the drain and fill procedure is not followed it results in an incomplete drain so when you add 6qts you will be over full. There is no such thing as a quick oil change on this engine.

I've gotten lazy over the years, but with this truck, I'm changing my own oil. Is there a 'favorite oil' thread? I've gotten over my old school belief in 3000 mile oil changes, especially with synthetics. But I'm having a hard time accepting that the first (break in) oil change could wait as long as 10,000 or even 5000 miles. I'm likely to follow the manual and the computer's recommendation... unless the oil on the 'dip-ribbon' doesn't flow.
