Default Fixed my poor fuel mileage on my 2.7 ( I traded it)

I bought my truck less than two months ago thinking my fuel mileage would be better than my 12 Ram but turns out my avg was 17-17.5 mostly all hiway, and all I heard mostly was it must be my driving habits, the wind, it's a heavy truck but all I know is it's the only vehicle I have ever owned that wouldn't even give me the city mileage. I wish it would have been better because I bought a really nice F-150 Sport with 2.7 that I liked everything except the poor mileage which never got better even after 2000 mi. So today I went and traded it on a 16 Dodge Ram 1500 eco-diesel. Like I stated I wish the mileage would have been better but it wasn't so now I'm leaving the Ford truck family but at least my wife still drives an Explorer.

Tax. You lost tax and any interest paid unless you paid straight up cash. Then you paid tax on the new Ram.

If you lost out on $2000 on the trade then having even if you come out +3 or 4 mpg then that's let's say the next few years the average price of gas is +/-$2.

That's about 1,000 gallons which would have netted you 17,000 miles at 17mpg X 1,000 gallons. So that's the approximate opportunity cost.

So if you can average 3mpg better than the 2.7 then to regain the advantage then 17,000 / 3mpg = 5,666 gallons of gas which is gonna be about 250-270 full tank refills which at once a week or two that's 5-11 years of ownership. Or 5,666gal X 20mpg = 113,320 miles of total driving.

Wouldn't this be like burning down the house to kill a mouse?

How much of a depreciation hit did you take trading so soon? Hopefully, your fuel savings with the Ram will offset this after a few years.

Good luck with that! My 2.7 ecoboost averages 22.2...not as good as Eco Diesel but works for me.

Thanks Phil. They do look good I've owned a 10 and 12 Ram, in my opinion the Ford looks better exterior but the Ram has a nice interior
