If you have faith in your ford dealer and want to save a couple of bucks, go ahead a do it. It doesn't make any difference for one oil change. Keep in mound, I bet they won't use full synthetic oil, and may very likely overfill it. For me, I got the same one time free oil change offer. I won't bother to go. The dealer is far from home anyway. And I don't like anyone else mess around with my truck.

Put my truck up on ramps, figured out how to drain it and put on Fram Ultra Filter. Let all the oil drain out before putting the plug back in. Put 6 qts of Mobile 1 5w-30 and won't worry about it for another year. Did it at the 3k mark. Cost me 30 bucks. Fairly easy to do now that I know what I am doing and I know it was done right. Hopefully, will help my mpg's too.

If you have a freebie let them do it, but then do it yourself.

I am wondering if any Ford owners would run their trucks for twenty thousand miles between oil changes. I own a 2011 F150 XLT 5liter with 46,000 miles. I get my all synthetic 5 W 20 oil at the local Rural Kind for $11.99 per five quart container and use the best XG10575 Fram filter and normally don't run more than five or six thousand miles between changes. By the way, the oil is called Harvest King synthetic.
Motorcraft filter from amazon is pretty cheap. I also use the Harvest King Oil. It's frequently on sale for $10/5qt of 5w30 full synthetic. Just ran an oil analysis of it at 5K mi had plenty of life left. I'll post the UOA if anyone is interested.

For $17 I do it myself, although I may have walmart put in the oil for me next time ($9). Walmart pumps the oil out - no messing with drain plug.

I would be interested in knowing what the TBN was on the HK oil at 5K.

You don't mention what engine you have, but if it's the 2.7EB I would be wary of a Walmart oil change due to canister filter availability & specific draining precautions. There is a debate as to whether the 2.7's internal oil drain valve mechanism interferes with access to the bottom of the sump for suction draining.

My ford dealer changes the oil, filter, checks brake pad thickness, tops off fluids, check battery voltage, check tire tread, rotates wheels and tires, vacuums inside and washes and dries exterior for 55$. In and out in an hour. Touch free style car wash machine. For that price I'll never get oil on my hands or use a wash kit to clean.

Slyone77, I'd like to know what the analysis is on the Harvest King oil too and would like to know how many miles that the laboratory doing the analysis believes the Harvest King oil is good for. Seven thousand, eight thousand, ten thousand????

Not to hijack, but here is the analysis. Ignore the second column. This was a used vehicle I purchase that had 'well used' oil in it. TBN was 3.4 at 5k miles. This lab only says the oil was still good, does not speculate. (Wix labs, not blackstone).

Nice little update to this post....

So I finally took the truck in for the free oil change. I spoke with the manager prior to giving them the keys, and explained how reluctant I was to have someone else change my oil, ESPECIALLY with the extra care/time required with the 2.7EB. He assured me they would stick with a 45 minute drain time and double check all was good before calling me for pickup. I was pleased with this and all went well.

Fast forward two weeks to last night. I notice that my truck is making a grinding/metal on metal noise every time I make a right turn. I also hear some strange sounds on what seemed like every slow rotation of the front wheels. Since this was at night, I looked in the wheel wells, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Like any other member on here, I hop on the forums and spend 45 mins researching for any solutions. I finally give up and call it a night.

Woke up early this morning, call my local dealer (not the one that I bought the truck from or used the free oil change from) and schedule them to take a look at it. As I walk out to the truck in the morning, I notice puddles under the front of the truck. Pop the hood, and bam.... Oil cap is wedged at the front of the hood by the driver's headlight, and oil has spewed all over the engine bay and belts.

I just dropped the truck off with my local dealer and explained what happened as well as providing the receipt for the previous work done. Needless to say, I am frustrated and ticked at myself for just not bucking up and doing the work myself. I will be calling the service manager for the offending dealer soon.

Just wanted to update, as this is an easier way to get my frustration out

ALWAYS check their work. From the filter, drain plug, oil cap, and just bout everything else. Or just do it yourself next time.

Good luck man. Let's see what they say/do.
