Default [Finally] 5.0 takes on the Ike Gaunlet!

Pretty good showing IMO. Honestly, it did better than I thought it would. I thought the 6 speed with 3:55's would really hinder the truck's performance, but it was neck and neck with the Silverado 5.3 8 speed that has 2 additional gears! I wonder if the F150 would've been able to hold 3rd gear if it had 3:73s. The 10 speed will do the 5.0 wonders. I just hope Ford keeps it around!

Cool video but dang that engine was screaming up that hill at 5K plus the whole time! I know that's where its power is but sure is different from the eco towing along at 2500 rpm.

Agreed. It did well, but I was feeling pretty sorry for that engine. Glad I got the 3.5L EB for towing (7:36 on the new heavier weight test:
). Don't get me wrong, the 5.0L would have been just fine to get (and sounds better) if the 3.5L echo-beast wasn't available.

OP, thanks for posting the link!

The 5.0 rocks...doesnt need turbos for power it will outlast those wimpy ecoboosts...dont see why ford doesnt just say turbo charged they disguise it calling it "ecoboost" but its just running a v6 harder trying to match v8 but i guess some people dont care about reliability down the road.

mmmkay. Sure sounded like that V-8 was "working harder" than the "little V-6" to me. No ones knocking the 5.0 here, I've had Ford V8's all my life but technology marches on. If I can cruise along with that trailer and barely hear the engine working then I'm in!

By definition, turbocharging is all about getting more from the same basic engine design, and many of the engine components have to suffer higher pressures and temperatures, which can make parts fail sooner; that's why, generally speaking, turbocharged engines don't last as long

I'm not sure you understand how turbos work. Its like corporate America views labor...

Do more with less.

He's a fool. He has the biggest ego thinking that his truck (that he doesn't even have yet) is soo much better than everybody else's. If its not engine, then its bed size, if its not bed size its gearing. No matter what you choose or have, his is always better.

The 5.0 did the gauntlet well, the ecoboost (3.5 and 2.7) did it better.
