[Finally] 5.0 takes on the Ike Gaunlet!

A good friend of mine has been a mechanic at the local Ford dealership for 20+ years. He's had 2 Ecoboost trucks and recommends them highly for folks that do a significant amount of towing. If you're not towing, the 5.0 is a great choice, but he says there is no difference in reliability between the 2 engines. The Ecoboost is designed from the ground up to be turbocharged and are reliable as any other power-plant.
But to your point, I was parking two nights ago at a local food joint. Guy in a 15 XLT was parking at same time. We got out and did the whole "nice truck" thing. He tells me "smart choice" on the 5.0. I told him that I had really wanted the 2.7 and so on. He comes back that he has been a tech at ford dealership(s) for 10 years and wouldn't own anything but a 5.0. I didn't get into any of his reasons but just find this whole thing funny. I guess my point is that even the techs that see these things daily don't agree.

Maybe it is da speed limit? They're already overloaded with the 5.0, wouldnt want to get a speeding ticket on top of that!

I never said the 5 wouldn't tow. I just said that the way it gets the job done makes the drive stressful ***for me***. The 5.0 is every bit as high tech as the Ecoboost, (turbocharging is really old news) and is a good engine.

Is so funny these threads. I bought the 5.0 because I couldn't configure a 2.7 with the options I wanted. I simply took the 5.0 over the 3.5 because I don't tow much and love the sound of the v8. I think all three engines are great and would own any of them.

Ok, just kidding. I had a tough time deciding between the engine choices. In the end I went with a 3.5L EB because my main desire on upgrading my truck was ease of towing. But, had I not found the perfect (for me) truck with the 3.5L EB, I would have been happy with it w/a 5.0L V8. Another (very small) part of the decision process is that I have a 1994 Camaro Z28 (6 speed manual, t-tops) in like-new shape, so whenever I want to hear that V8 sound, I have my summer car to do that in.

My buddy and I bought almost identical trucks at the same time last year, him the 3.5EB and me the 5.0L. Judging by what I read on these forums, it's hard to believe we're still friends!
Oh, and we're both very happy with our choices!

I didnt know it was a debate..5.0 is better and more capable...3.5 cant even have a snow plow. Also v8 gets better mpg. I always assumed people buy the turboboost bc thats whats one the lot.

You mean singing! And boy did it sound good.
To the member who said something along the lines of "I wouldn't feel comfortable with the engine screaming like that while towing"
Keep in mind, that was a lot of weight they were towing (9000lbs).To me,JMHO,when Ford says "The 5.0 and Ecoboost can tow this much max" that really means,it "can",but ideally shouldn't be towing that said weight all the time.If your going to tow that kind of weight all the time, you need a Super Duty.
If your not going to be towing that weight all the time/only here and there, either the 5.0 or Ecoboost is great.

After reading these posts, and realizing that I am towing my 6X10 enclosed motorcycle trailer with my NA 3.5 V6, I guess I should be sent to the corner with the pointy hat on my head...!
When I go up hills I just slow down a little so as not to push the engine so hard. If I was going to tow a 9000 pound trailer, I would get a F250 SD with a diesel and have the torque I need to do it.
Now I have to go study engines to see which is the best. The 5.0 Coyote or the 3.5 EcoBoost. Wow, all this work just to read this darn forum...
LOL!!!
