I have always followed the manual in the past. Now when the truck states its time to change on the dash I do it. The auto companies put a lot of money and time into testing, so I follow the recommendations.

OP's post asked for the text of a letter, and discussed his dealership's abuse on maintenance notifications...

I agree 100%. Ford has their reputation on the line when it comes to long term durability. They wouldn't tell you to follow the IOLM if they thought the extended oil changes would cause engine damage. Ford has engineers that run their engines through testing conditions the average owner never will. Then tear them down to study the wear. They also have chemist who analyze lubricants and fluids to see how they hold up under the same conditions. Trying to out think the people who designed and built the engine and the fluids that keep it running is a waste of time.

Why is everyone so worried about what dealers are advertising?
Not everyone on this forum is experienced in auto mechanics. Some people may take a dealer's advertisement as Gospel.

Since one purpose of this forum is to teach and advise, and maybe to save people some money on their vehicles, discussing shady advertising serves that purpose.

Of course, people are free to ignore any advice. But look at the size of the 5,000 mile print on the ad I received today. Hmmm...

There is a reason why Ford put out that letter.

What a great letter ... good for Ford for taking such a clear position with its dealer network.

Lovely story, but not what OP was looking for.....And I'll draw your attention to the Manufacturer of you vehicle stating "reducing intervals will not increase the durability of your vehicle". But I guess its your money

Thanks again!
No problem!

I agree, great to see ford coming out for the customer.

too bad many many dealers will probably ignore it and continue business as usual. I can imagine in my area all of zero will stop their misleading practices, they have it down to a science.

I wish ford ford would really start to reign in the dealer network on more than just service intervals, many that I have interacted with are infested with poor/shady sales tactics, misleading gimmicks, bait and switch, and could care less about the brand they sell or a return customer.

My dealer sends me those letters. Put them in the trash. At 5000 miles since my last oil change, the oil life monitor said 50% remaining. We took a 300 mile round trip on Friday and now it's down to 49%.
