Ryan,
I drive about 20-25k miles per year so in my case I waited until the warranty expired and got what I wanted then. I did this for 2 reasons: 1. I bought an11 eco boost and loved it but I wanted all the bells and whistles and I knew it within 6 months so I didn't mod it. Then in 13, I got the lariat the way I wanted it and started modding at 36000 miles, because I love it and I'm not tired of it yet, and at that mileage, you will most likely have to replace and repair stuff anyways. In my case, tires, brakes rotors. Then I did the blistein 5100s and the front and red helwig sway bars. Like a whole new truck to me. Good luck

Ok, so I just got off the phone with my dealer (who sells rigs with 6" lift kits).
If I choose to install any kind of lift on my own and/or use non-Ford parts then I void an warranty related to all suspension components. They also assured me that suspension modifications (i.e. 2" leveling kit) installed by me or otherwise does not affect the warranty for other components such as engine and transmission.

Now as far as the lifted rigs with oversized tires that they sell, this ford dealer uses an indemnified third party who offers a suspension warranty along with their service. So basically the dealer will honor everything at this point on these modified rigs.

I've always installed the lifts in my rigs so I have no experience with using a certified big box 'lift shop', are these types of businesses in the habit of offering a warranty that is on par with a manufacturer's warranty (3/36k)?

I'm going to sleep on it but I may just fork over the $ to have this third party that my dealer uses to install my leveling kit. That way I don't have to risk exposing my self any more than I need on future claims on this truck. I'd hate to install this myself then next week my truck simultaneously....drops a tranny, blows a motor, seat backs burst into flames, power steer and brakes go out while driving through a construction zone full of workers. Ford would definitely blame my lil' 2" lift since I installed it.

Yea it seems to me that Ford does what they can to get out of any warranty claims. Is Toyota, Nissan, Chevy like this also???

My next truck will be a Toyota for sure. I have always had great luck with them. The only thing I would miss is the 3.5 Eco engine the rest Ford can keep.

I use to be a pretty die hard Ford guy until now.

Reading this as a Chevy commercial followed by a gmc commercial plays in the background lol it's just that you go to bat for Ford every time some GM guy brags and boasts about his SilverGaydo and you expect Ford to appreciate that and go to bat for you. My love affair with Fords starter 20 years ago when my dad pulled up to my baseball game in a brand new laser red 95' mustang convertible 😎

1968 Mustang Convertible
1998 F150 RCab Flareside
1997 F150 SCab Flareside
2005 Mustang Coupe
2015 F150 SCab XLT Sport

Walk into a GM dealership and literally feel like I'm cheating 😰

Yea I was never dedicated to any one brand of car or truck. It's just a car or truck. I don't fall in love with it. LOL

Since High School (I'm 47 now) I have owned mainly Toyota's and Nissan Trucks. Never owned a Chevy and If I went looking for something else I would not feel like I am cheating at all. Wife and I will be looking at trading the Honda CRV soon and was looking at the Edge, but probably not going to be a Ford Product.

Yeah Booze, that's what I've seen with that stuff or they have done some deal with the manufacturer said aftermarket items where they are getting them to share or cover the cost themselves. I think Roush does something like this...? Can't remember.

If you like the extended cabs better, why in the world would you spend thousands more for your truck just to fit in with the majority??
I still see tons of extended cabs all over

It is just a fact. They told me that they'd both go to bat for me with Ford, but in the end, Ford will be Ford and there is nothing they can do about it....

One of the things I asked them about specifically was putting an under 3" leveling kit on the truck and sticking a bigger block in the back. The service manager told me that he has seen this time and time again, where if the truck is raised like that in any way, Ford will deny any warranty claim related to the transmission, axles, suspension, etc.

This is exactly the weather forecast I'm getting from my dealer as well. Though they will verbally tell me that suspension mods will only void suspension related claims and NOT affect my power/drive train warranty, when I asked for that in writing they balked! I guess its the nature of the beast.

I'm willing to void just suspension but it looks like the chances are greater than good that ford will weasel out of everything possible. I'm not willing to take that chance, need to find another route that doesn't punch holes in my warranty. Lame!

Yea I put airbags on the back to help make my towing the trailer safer. I am sure that just voided my entire truck if my dealer could get away with it. LOL

Another reason to never ever buy there extended warranty it's worthless. They will figure out a way to not cover what ever you are trying to get fixed.

Yep so basically the only way around it is to only do bolt-on mods that you won't mind taking on and off when you have an issue and need to bring it to ford. I might just opt to paint my wheels tuxedo black, swap out the blue center for chrome ones, switch to a stock 275/65r18 KO2, remove my rear 1.25" block and POSSIBLY add 1.5" spacer/adapter to push the wheels out for a more aggressive stance. Cheap yet effective and more important reversible mods to make my truck my own.
