Yeah I like how well the kicker fits so I'll go with that. I know the VSS is supposed to boost the performance of the stock speakers plus add the sub so I'm just curious if anyone knows how it boost the stock speakers so maybe we can do that ourselves?

The VSS is an amp with a built in DSP. Nothing to do with truck system settings. But simply amping the trucks speakers is pretty impressive. I'm running the clarion 4x50 behind the dash with the stock speakers and it can get really loud. Shakes the mirrors. But I'm looking for a little more low end.

Anyway, after I enabled the option, the kicker hideaway turned on and is now working great. One note, the hideaway has a setting where it can detect the audio signal and use that to turn on instead of the remote line. Although I did connect the remote line, the sub doesn't seem to work with this option. I suspect it is because the voltage is only 6V as lucas8888 had measure (I haven't confirmed). In any case, I'll just use the high level monitoring to turn the sub on. It was really nice that this could be completely plug and play. I didn't have to fish any wires or splice anything on the factory harness. I've attached pictures of the WPT-1212 that I recieved to couple to my Hideaways harness. I also have a picture of the jumper harness after I soldered all the connections. Gray connection to chassis harness, black to hideaway subwoofer.
I bought this same sub and harness and will be trying this in the next day or so. I have a question though. I'm pretty sure how about matching the 1212 up to the factory plug except for one thing. What is the black wire for in the factory plug. I saw further up that it's shield +/-? I don't see anything in the kicker instructions about where this should go. Is it used at all?

The shield is there to stop noise. It ends just before the amplifer

So did you wire it into the 1212 harness or just leave it out? I know what shielding is for, I'm just trying to understand if I should even worry about it when using a 3 foot jumper cable. I don't see how it would do anything unless it wrapped around the other feeds.

one more stupid question. Did you run the speaker + and - to both channels on the kicker?
