I don't know if this is just my mind playing tricks, but...
My 2 month old XLT truck has very disappointing sound. Very flat, no bass.
I was playing with Forescan for the first time tonight (makes me blush just to say that, sounds kind of dirty...) to enable the OEM bedlights I installed over the weekend. That worked as advertised Then playing around running some scans etc, the software told me I had a null or n/a entry in the audio module. Opening that mod (whatever it is called) showed me that my speakers were not configured (no choice had been made)! I looked at the options and chose CrewCab 7 speaker / kicker (even tho I do not have the kicker, to the best of my knowledge) and enabled that. The audio did a sort of recycle dance, then turned it'self on and started playing. To my late night ear, it sounded WAY better! I will give it a critical listen tomorrow, but maybe I just saved myself a speaker/woofer/amp upgrade?
I have a lariat and had the same feeling when I enabled sub option in the forscan. It makes the speakers crisp and I had to lower the treble to almost 30%. From thereon , it is a personal choice. I added ps8 and I am enjoying it. I am even thinking of adding a bigger sub and upgrade door speakers.
Stock system was useless, I agree. If you like it now, there is no need to upgrade or a lots of reason to do so ( you know what I mean). It is WANT vs NEED from here on.
No worries. I have the same exact box left over from my 2014 F150. Just got the WPT1212 harness in the mail today, so hopefully i'll tackle this project over the weekend.
I was actually thinking about taking the sub out and drilling a hole using that bolt to secure the sub.
Do you think it makes a difference to cut the legs off the box?
The legs are there to keep the speaker when extended from hitting the floor. In our case (behind the seat), they are there to keep the speaker from hitting the seat back. So I would be careful in cutting of the legs. However, the seat is slightly angled so...?
After I cut out the backing, I was able to get it in and the seat back to latch (barely). I'm going to first try it this way before hacking away at any else.
Upgrade bug has hit me. I am going to look to get a custom box made and fit some larger sub and amp. If anyone is interested in brand new ps8 , hit me with a pm. The wpt1212 will be available as well already attached to sub connectors. So , all plug and play for someone wanting to enjoy a good sub
anyone trw the kenwood sw11? i picked one up and got it all hooked up and the volume from it is terribly low, almost cant tell its even on. i have the command set to aux sub, anyone know if aux speaker has a stronger signal level?
many thanks to those who have contributed to this thread ! I dont have Windows ; any Forscan Android solutions to enable the subwoofer on an XLT 301a package? thanks again
Where do you live? If you're close to Austin, I'm happy to enable your settings for you. No need to pay a dealer.

do you have the volume (on the sub) turned up? What about the phase and crossover point?

Thank you, im in Hawaii, but found a friend that has a Windows tablet and a F350, so he can play too :0)
I finally found the harness (thanks to Aashu) and plugged in the factory Kicker sub and amp. The installation instructions say to remove the drivers side rear corner seatbelt pillar to access the harness, which you dont need to do---------- i just reached around the back of the pillar (small gap if you push the back wall insullation towards the tailgate) found the harness and pulled it off its plastic tab so i could pull it out and insert the Kicker harness. done. Now waiting for my MX from Amazon to enable this sucker.....so close...

I didn't think to mention that in my writeup but I did the same thing - Ignored the instructions to remove the seatbelt and just pulled back the plastic on the pillar.
Still really liking my Kicker. Let us know what you think once you get it enabled!

Do you have the level + and - from the factory harness connected to both the left and right inputs on the sub? Looking at the manual for that kenwood says you need to do that or volume output will be halved.
It also says that with that sub you have to have the remote connected and leave it connected in order to adjust volume, frequency and phase. If it's not connected it defaults back to factory presets.
ya its connected on both chanels. volume and phase are set on the sub and remote connected. using a line out converter to connect it now and its a bit better. i would say its on par with what a good set of 6x9's would have achieved. not equal to what i would have expected for over $300
