F150 vs. Moose
We go up every year to Copper Harbor to mountain bike in Michigan's upper peninsula. We were headed home and headed East. There is a yellow sign with a Moose on it right outside of Baraga that states Moose Crossing next 35 miles. My wife says "hey, maybe we'll see one this year." Well about 1 mile east of Michigamme on US41, it's about 10AM, I see what looks like a moving shadow in the trees, next thing I realize it's a female moose with her calf, walking at a fast clip heading north and right out onto the road! I'm doin ~65mph, towing our 5000 lb trailer, trees all around, no way I'm gonna swerve and end up in the trees so we road it out. The calf stopped when he saw us, but mama must of figured "they'll stop, they always stop" and she kept walking. Well, she gave me no time and I hit her at about 40ish. She rolled up on to the hood and her butt cracked against the windshield as she rolled upside down. While upside-down she let go of her bowels - moose poop everywhere! We pulled over and came to a stop (picture). She hobbled off and went to the north side of the road to lie down - mortally wounded. The Michigan State Police showed up - we were all okay, calf took off back south. Should have seen our boy's eyes when the trooper pulled out his M-16(AR) to dispatch the moose. The MI DNR came to take the moose back to Marquette for the food bank - on their way to town they almost ended up in a head on collision! This moose was a moose of doom!
Anyway, Fox Ford Collision up in Ishpeming had just taken delivery of all of the necessary equipment to fix/replace the Aluminum body panels and such. The did a fantastic job! So now my F150 is built Yooper Tough!

Bummer for you and the moose. Calf will probably end up as a wolf snack without mom to help.
We have vacation property on the west end, seen 3 bulls together in that same stretch of M-28 last winter, coming back with the sleds in tow. They stayed off the road though.

Yes, fixed. Not too much to see. It looked new inside and out. The folks at Fox did a great job. It's got about 1000 miles on it since the accident with no issues.
Also, thanks for Lytefly for posting my picts!
