Default F150 vs. F250

Has anyone grappled with choosing between a 150 and a 250? I’m close to buying a new truck and love the look and capabilities of the 250, and the price is less than what it would be for the 150 + lift. I know post-purchase costs factor in for the 250, but it’s still weighing on me a bit.

Yep, I went back and forth before making my choice a couple weeks ago. If you are going to be towing often, or high weight trailers, then you should get the F-250. Thats what its really created for. If you are only going to be towing occasionally, then get the 150. The power specs of the 3.5TT are truly incredible. The weight and tow abilities of a 150 with the max-tow and heavy-duty-payload is what a 250 used to be years ago.

Download the Ford brochures for both trucks and look at the options and capabilities to make the final determination for yourself.

Yes, many of us do. When comparing gas trucks, yes they are pretty similar in price.

If you don’t tow or haul much, I would go with the F150.
If you are coming from a non-Ecoboost truck, then the 6.2 is a great engine.
If it’s just for the looks, you will be much happier with the ride of the 150.

What do you do with your truck? I think I am in the middle of most truck users that drive as a DD.

I drive 22k miles a year, with about 2-3k miles towing.
I don’t tow over 6500 lbs with most being under 5k.
I have about 500 lbs in the bed daily.

The F150 works great, no complaints. I want a Superduty due to payload limitations a couple times a year. The big deciding factor is the Ecoboost is such a great engine that I don’t think I can go back to a NA engine.

I am having problems with my 2nd F150 and I have been wanting to lift and get Raptor wheels which has me seriously thinking about going the Tremor for a do everything I could want truck. Sadly 80% of the time a Toyota Tacoma is the right truck which has me thinking I need to stick with what I have. I love the F150s and if I step up it would be a F350 and overkill with the big diesel. Even though the new big block sounds like a incredible motor too.

I went back and forth between the F150 and F250. I liked the stance/height of the F250, but finally realized that I’d be better off in the F150 as a DD.

After driving trucks for most of my life, the F250 ride wasn’t bad at all....unless it had the camper package, with the camper package it wasn’t nearly as compliant.

All in all, they are close in price when the F250 has the gas motor. Frankly, if looking at a new gas SD....I would hold out for the new motor and transmission. Also of note is that the shortest bed length in a SD is 6.75’, so parking in a standard garage may be out of the cards....if that matters to you. Also, they are tall enough that some home garages can be an issue.

Do do your homework and see what fits you best. Either will be nice...unless you get the SD camper package.

I went back and forth. I ended up with a 150, obviously, but those 250’s sure are sharp. I could have gone either way. Spec-wise the 250 was overkill.

My buddy has a real nice 2018 250 and he needs it for the weight he's towing. I don't however like the ride on his 250 and unless it's loaded he doesn't like it much himself. Obviously the 250 is a superior towing vehicle and that's what I would buy if I needed it. My F150 3.5 tows everything I need and also has a decent ride. If you need more towing capacity then it's the 250 all the way imo. If you don't need then it's just over kill but perhaps that 250 is good for someones ego..............

I've had both. My 350 (and the 250 I had as a loaner just the other day) was amazingly capable and powerful (when the 6.0 wasn't blowing up, anyway). But, even with some weight, they are *rough* riding. Low wife acceptance factor.

Plus, the relatively nicely equipped 4WD F250 PSD CC-SB XLT I had the other day for a loaner was within $1K sticker price of my uber pimped F150.

A SD was the only way I could get a 8 ft bed and a crew. I skipped the 250 and got a 350, though
