It pays to form somewhat of a relationship with the UPS, FedEx, and USPS drivers. All the guys that deliver to me, know that if I'm not around, they're to leave the package in the barn. Crap, my UPS guy is a really cool guy, always BS's for a few minutes, always is interested in what I'm doing in the barn, always had a cookie for my best buddy. My neighbor has a 1/4 mile driveway, thru the pickers. The UPS guy has their phone number and calls them in bad weather to see if he can get down their drive.
It also pays to live in an unpopulated, low crime area.
Zero complaints about the actual delivery guys, it's the ones between the shipper and delivery guy that's the problem.
I swear, with USPS, it seems that if a package is supposed to be delivered in say, 5 days, they'll sit on it at the regional, and wait to the last minute. Aggravating!!!!

Its fun for people to complain when things go awry, but apart from the solutions already mentioned, motion detection camera systems are getting pretty cheap nowadays. For a few hundred buckeroos there are systems that you can see the camera view on your cell phone.
There are also really inexpensive monitors that just ring a remote bell upon detection. You can set one up on your porch and be notified whenever an intruder arrives.
This one is $20 at home depot or about $15 on evilbay

When the driver scans a package it marks a GPS location of where the package was delivered, they should be able to go back to the delivery record to see where the package was physically delivered on the GPS records. All my delivery guys (USPS, UPS, FEDEX) wail till they drop the package off before they scan it so it should be pretty accurate.

I had issues with FedEx a couple years ago. I had three separate packages within a week that said they were delivered, but there was nothing at my house. I was at home all three times. I called FedEx, who called the driver, who stated "he might have delivered them to the wrong house". I took a walk up and down the street and found the three packages sitting on the front porch of a house that was for sale and unoccupied. Until I moved from that house, I had all FedEx deliveries sent to the FedEx Office in my area.

You're not understanding how the delivery services work. UPS and FedEx don't randomly have the post office delivery their packages.
UPS delivers their own packages, as does FedEx.
UPS offers SHIPPERS a service called UPS SurePost, which has pricing advantages for some shippers. This service has USPS, or UPS, deliver the package, UPS turns it over (sometimes) for the final delivery.
FedEx offers SHIPPERS a similar service called SmartPost, which also (sometimes) utilizes USPS for the final delivery.
IF a shipper ships via either service (and these are companies, not people using the service), then the final delivery MAY be done by the post office, at the company's (UPS of FedEx) discretion. If FedEx or UPS sees they are already going to that address that day, they often take the package.

I知 familiar with how the system works. It痴 used here often enough, and given the poor quality service that the postal service has provided here, I don稚 like it when they do it. My postal carrier isn稚 very fond of it either since she has to exit the truck and actually carry the package to the front porch. I致e even seen a separate USPS truck make package deliveries, separate from our usual carrier.

Unofficially referred to as the coopetition. It's been happening for years now, but it's still odd to see fedex and oops trucks sitting at our loading dock at the processing plant.
