Thank for the great information.

This is where the aat sensor plugs in on a 2017 model. That pigtail runs down to the sensor

Now if you look at your 18 you’ll see that same plug there but without the yellow and green wires running to the aat sensor. Right behind the grill. And it’s all wired up to the main harness

Hey guys. Here's my original post from back in July, hopefully it helps.

And my sensor has been stuck on 28 deg F all day. Outside temp got up to around 40 deg F. Never had that issue before.

Here is a view from the top of my 2018 XLT with the plastic cover pulled up. The AAT sensor harness is the connector on the left. It has a cap on the bottom side, which I am guessing on a '17 has the yellow/green AAT connector to the sensor as shown in Magnetic's pic above posting. The cap on my AAT harness connector has no pins or apparent contact with the harness connector, really looks just like a fitted dust cap. Leads me to believe that circuit is not live. Maybe need Forscan to activate the circuit if one wants to move the AAT sensor to the grill?

Not sure what that harness and connector on the right of my picture goes to.

This is what the 8 pin connector (with only 2 wires, yellow/green) that goes to a possible AAT sensor look like:

Inside of the cap for the AAT connector, no exposed pins. I'm trying to avoid getting into Forscan, so will try to adapt a AAT into the aftermarket passenger tow mirror, but will keep this front grill option in mind.

The cap is probably just there to keep the contacts in the actual connect clean and debris free to prevent shorts between the two contacts.

I can't say for sure but the actual grille wiring on the harness may still be active and the harness may have been redesigned to accept either sensor so Ford phase in and could use up any grille existing sensors they still had on order or on the production floor before the switch to the mirror mounted sensors.

Not sure if Ford thinks this way but I know this is what some of our customers do when they're making a change to a their product we build for them so they can use the existing we have on order or on our lines because the cost scrapping the old parts and reworking everything on the production lines are greater than a simple change of adding two wires and a connector into a harness.

I guess I could have used a voltmeter and tested the yellow/green wire contacts in the harness connectors to see if any power. Still, it would be considered an open circuit with just that dust cap, right?

This thread has been good info! I still need to find a way to add pins to my Ford mirror connectors. Anyone have ideas or a source for pins? A used 22 pin mirror connector would be nice I guess, but probably hard to find. The aftermarket mirror I have has the 22 pin connector, but just missing 2 pins that run the AAT (that I hope to wire in).

open up your old mirror and disconnect the AAT sensor and unpin the wires from the connector and then put them in the same spot on your new connector

Not sure but I think it may be a TE Connectivity 1924968-3. This is the pin for a 20-22AWG wire and a 1924968-2 fro a 18AWG version. If you do try it please report back if the pin worked.
Thank you
