Default Extended Warranty

Picked up my new Race Red F-150 XL yesterday with 5.0. Dealer hit me up for two deals, both 'official' Ford products. One I immediately took as it was prepaid maintenance for 100K miles which looked to be a good deal. I dreaded taking the truck in for the 30K etc. visits knowing that the dealership was going to have fun charging me when I did. It pays for service at 5K intervals through 100K miles.

My question is this. The other product extends the bumper to bumper to cover years 4-8. Cost is $2700. Again, this is covered by Ford, not a third party vendor and the advantage as I see it is that with the electronics being such an integral part of the truck now, it might be a good choice. Has anyone else bought this coverage and if you didn't, why not?

You can get the same warranty for significantly less.

Unless your dealer will match, I'd stay away from buying it from them.

We got that from our dealer for $1,900. $2,700 is too high.

Might want to spend some time reading your MANUAL. You got taken on the prepaid maintenance. The only maintenance in the first 100,000 miles are oil changes (closer to 10,000 miles, not 5,000 miles), air filter changes, and tire rotations. NOTHING ELSE.

You should return to the dealership and cancel that policy.

As to extended warranty, they are designed for the dealerships and Ford to make large profits. Like any extended warranty, they rarely pay off for consumers. If you feel you must have one, don't buy from your dealer, buy from one of the online Ford dealers which are less than 1/2 that price.

What else did they try (or succeed) to sell you? Paint protection? Rust proofing? Fabric protection?

You mean I didn't need the titanium muffler grease? And the anti-zombie repellant paint sealer isn't needed either?

Really, the service I paid for is at 5K intervals and though the 'book' may call for 10K oil changes, here in Houston it is hot and we have lots of stop and go. If you've had a car serviced by a dealer, you know, they stick it to you every chance they get.

Read this: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/when-s...mation-372752/

The IOLM takes into account your stop and go driving. Every 5,000 miles is excessive. And, as noted, besides oil changes, air filter, cabin air filter, and tire rotations - there is no other maintenance in the first 1,000 miles.

NO - you will pay more for the same warranty coverage if you insure just below 35k vs on purchased before 12k and less than one year old.

You're missing the point.

Yes, you will pay $100 more if you do it after 12,000 miles / 12 months.

However, you'll have 24,000 miles / 24 months more experience with the vehicle. If you've had a bunch of problems covered by warranty, then you can decide if you the cost is worth it depending on how much longer you will be keeping it. If you've had no issues, you might think hard about spending that kind of money.

Likewise, if you get to 36,000 in a lot less than 3 years, you'll need to remember that you'll do the same with the extended warranty.

Everyone is correct your maintenance plan, that's a rip off. You really have little to no maintenance on these trucks. Some oil changes and filters, tire rotation, which if you have Costco membership rotations are free.

I can not answer about the floodforddesp I am interested in learning from anyone that has had to do claims and things through them. However I know all the ones that call you, telemarketers which are 3rd party ones are scams.

However extended coverage for the bumper to bumper is always something I put in on the loan. Every single truck I have owned this has paid for itself. First Truck sunroof motor went out and stripped the track it rides on. $1800 fix as they had to pull and replace the entire sunroof. Couple other minor issues, 200-300 a pop all paid for I kept this one to 80k miles. Second one, stereo system went out taking sync and all the other stuff. Sure truck was drive able just fine. Kind of wanted a stereo in it though. Another time in for faulty sensors and so on. Again paid for itself and all these repairs were from the 36k to 60k where I traded it in.

I just get the extended from the dealer. I have one point of contact, it is in their system. There is no question when I come in, I pay my $100 deductable and I am done. They handle all the paperwork.
