Is The End In Sight? Ford Plans To Scale Back 5.0L V8 Production At Essex Engine Plan

I am one of those buyers. I have zero interest in a much more complicated engine with turbos. If Ford gets rid of the V8, I'd go to Chevy. I honestly may buy a Chevy next anyways, because 6.2 w/ 8 speed.

What's funny to me is that no one wants a non-turbo diesel or questions the reliability of the turbo's on a diesel even though they are the same turbo's turning the same rpm and doing the same exact function.

No way in hell did Ford sabotage their own engine line to push another. They implemented a faulty design to aid in phasing out the 5.0 all the while replacing longblocks, filling the internet with horror stories and damaging their own reputation? Preposterous 😂

My 19 w/2.7 is the first V6 I've owned in,,, jeesh,,, 20 years,,,. (That was a 4.3 5 spd manual in a 95 GMC short/wide single). Before that 4.3,,, eh,,, all were V-8's between 5.7 and 7.5 liters...
(That gutless 4.3 rarely got over 15-16 highway. Dang sure didn't need a speed limiter on it, either,,, Doubt it would reach 90 on level ground with a strong tailwind!!! LOL!)
"Back then" a V-8 was about the only thing with decent 'get up and go'... They sounded pretty good too. (Mostly because that's what everyone short of Grandma and the Mailman had, and that's what everyone liked)
Lately,,, the 'fart can' muffs on 6's and 4's seem to be what 'young' drivers like. Can't say I can 'appreciate' that sound, but hey, "louder = faster", right? (LOL!)
Myself? Today I can honestly say I really don't care how many cylinders it has. ~Aural stimulation via combustion of common pump gas~ is pretty low on my list of requirements.
Adequate power and efficiency are all I need. In my situation the 2.7 w/10 speed has plenty of 'zing', and 20+ mpg in town "just ain't too shabby".
I'll go out on a limb and say V-8's in general will become increasingly rare,,,; Don't believe me? When's the last time you saw a 'common passenger vehicle' (1/2 ton or less, and not a exotic ~sports~ car) on a showroom floor with 7+ liters under the hood?
And just to 'rub a little salt in the wound', yeah, I guess a 5.0 ~V-8~ sounds good, but I remember back when a V-8 'half again' as big sounded a whole lot BETTER!!!
Enjoy 'em while ya can!!!!!

The v8 isn't going anywhere the 2020 raptor is supposed to be getting a v8 option. The mustang will never not have a v8 option. Like it or not they built their brand on the v8. They will always have something.

I hope they don't kill off the V-8. I've towed with both the 3.5 ecoboost and the 5.0L and the V-8 wins hands down. The ecoboost actually got worse MPG when hauling in hills. Had my foot on the floor while the V-8 may have been a bit slower, but it handled things better.
I'm a Ford stockholder (several thousand shares), currently own 2 Fords (2016 Lariat and 2019 Edge Titanium), and have owned 7 Fords. I'm waiting for an order build 2019 Lariat with 5.0L, But if the V-8 goes away, I'll probably go with (ugh) Ram . We haul a travel trailer, not a boat, not a flatbed trailer. The ecoboost just doesn't do it with that wall facing into the wind. My only other option would be SuperDuty, but the wife is 5 ft and I don't like being able to drive an Ecosport under any vehicle I own.
