Default electric tailgage won't open

electric tailgate on 2016 F150 won't open. I can hear the latch click, but won't release, even if I am pulling on it when I hit the button

I had a Silverado one time that had the tailgate stop opening no matter what. The connection between the handle and the bars that pull the latches open had failed. I had to replace the handle so I could reinstall the bars to the latches.

Have you tried the manual release?

Maybe try pushing the endgate inwards while trying to release it electrically ... and of course try opening it by hand as mentioned and see if it's overly hard to unlatch.

There's a hole directly behind the handle...I was told there's a manual release you push inside it?

I don't know of any manual release but I had the same problem when hauling a bunch of dirt and mulch to the dump. Crud got into all the open places in the tailgate and it took me 15 minutes to get it open. I ha e no idea what I did other than get mad as hell. Just pushed the button while pushing and pulling and cursing.

There is a manual release lever on the inside, but I don't know if you can reach it without removing the inside tailgate panel

Here is a picture with the panel removed with the manual release circled
