It seems the 2018+ 5.0’s are plagued with problems since changing to both port and direct injection. Ford may have killed the reliability on that one. You rarely, if ever hear complaints on the 2.7 and 3.3. Let us know what you end up buying!

Life is short, get the engine you WANT. They're all fun & reliable.

(test drive them all, so you know. Other's opinions are great, but...)

My concern is what negative affect can that type of driving have on the turbo system? Any info on this is greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance. Also we live in Fl.
Seriously? Buy your wife an electric car. She will love it. EVs don’t mind short trips. Most can start the HVAC remotely via smartphone (and not kill anyone if it is in a closed garage) so the car is comfortable before she leaves. Used Nissan LEAFs are $10k with low miles.

Buy yourself the truck you want.

Seriously?
IF the engine "issues" were as bad as you imply, Ford service depts. would be full to overflowing with failing engines.
Step back from the computer and take a breath of reality. Every thing you read on a forum does NOT indicate a failed experiment by a manufacturer.

Well speaking from my own personal experiences...
I had a 2013 3.5 ecoboost which ran fine for three years then went to crap eating timing chains and cam phasers. Had it all fixed three times and when the warranty was gone it was me paying the bill.
So...I sold it and bought a 2018 with a 5.0 V8 and now I have another motor that is under performing with a constant engine rattle noise on deceleration and engine knock.

Theres plenty of information and owner experiences on this forum, some good and some bad.
You hear a lot about how so many people have owned 3 or 4 or 5 of a type of engine with no issues however I find that many and most of those folks really don't own the truck long enough to really know for sure or really get the most time and mileage out of their engines. Seems no one owns anything anymore for more than 3 years. (owned my 2013 for 6 years)

As for the value and the worth of what you may or may not read on a forum such as this...
I see it all the time...references made as to what is posted on here is not a reflection of the product...really? why not?

There are many trucks sold each year - some of those owners are members of this forum.
Many come on here to complain about their trucks - and many don't.
Many have issues with their trucks and many don't and there are many truck owners with issues that don't go onto internet forums and some of those owners don't even know there's anything wrong.

Consider the fact that folks who have problems tend to be more vocal that those who don't. Doesn't matter what forum and what vehicle. Folks who have been trouble free tend not to spend a lot of time looking for answers to problems they aren't having or just posting to say my truck is problem free. I find many threads on this board are echo chambers, with often the same posters flooding them with the same comments (and this thread is the same). The same posters often dismiss the experience of others since it doesn't match theirs, with justifications like they don;t keep their trucks long enough or use them hard like I do.

Go drive the trucks with the different engines and buy the one you like. Nobody has to like your choice but you.

For the OP"s driving cycle, it will be hard on ANY of the engine choices, turbo or not.

If you base your choices on the noise on this board, it would appear the 2018+ 5.0 is not the one to be talking about being more reliable than the other engine choices. Draw your own conclusions...

I've had a 2.7 (2016) loved that engine , had 0 issues with it for 2 years, towing during a lot of that. Fantastic on gas and plenty of power. I know own a 2018 3.5 even more power, and within 2 days of owning it it went in the shop for 1 month. The issue was fixed and ow has been flawless towing 5th wheel. If I didn't buy a larger trailer I would still be using the 2.7

First I want to Thank everyone for your reply's to my post. One one hand it looks like I can ride my Harley for a few more yrs. I am currently driving an '04 Lariat Super cab. The truck has 170,000 miles on it and runs great. I have a disabled daughter that I have to consider when buying a vehicle. I had an 04 Mustang Cobra that I sold recently. That was kinda my toy. It would run 165+ on an open road, (Please don't ask how I know) I like V8s and how great they sound with the right tune and exhaust. I had no idea the new motors are direct injection (5.0) Generally I keep a vehicle till the wheels fall off. However my wife loves the truck and is interested in a new one. After reading the above posts It appears a '16 or '17 my be better in the long run. Direct port injection concerns me as to the coking problems that are pretty much guarantee performance issues in the long run. Does anyone here have a high mileage DI truck ( over 100,000 miles ) that can offer advice on the twin turbo model or the 5.0? Thank you again for your support.

Some (most) of the older model year motors don't have port injection to go along with the direct injection, so do a bit of research before you buy or you may end up with a coking problem without realizing it.
