Default eco vs 5.0

I own a 2014 F150 STX 5.0 I then purchased a 32ft travel trailer. The dealer told me it would pull it. 9500 lbs

It holds the weight well but the truck strains to pull it.

My question is : will the 2017 F150 3.5 ecoboost with max tow package pull it better

I personally would never haul a 9500 lb trailer with an f150 no matter which engine is in it. You need a Super Duty.

Maybe. After all the math is said and done. Don't forget those ratings from Ford are for ideal conditions with 1 driver and nothing else.

If we are to disregard things like payload and safe load ratings per specs, yes, the 3.5 EB will tow better. way more torque with a way wider powerband.

with the right packages and rear gears it'll pull it, but it won't be fun. That's 3/4 ton territory to feel comfortable with that sail and likely high tongue weight.

The ecoboost will pull it better because it makes good power over a wider rpm range. How often are you pulling this trailer?

If you are crisscrossing the country with it I would recommend a 3/4 ton as well.

P.S. The 5.0 was engineered to run high rpms when it is being worked hard. It makes its power higher in the RPM band. Its not hurting the engine, its doing what its supposed to do, let it rev.

The answer to your question is - YES

But do yourself and your passengers a favor and get a Super Duty.

Get an F-250 with the 6.7. If you're pulling that trailer long distance or on a regular basis, you're well beyond 1/2 ton territory.

My issue is that 9500 lbs is nowhere near what the F150 he asked about can handle when properly outfitted...and the fact that too many people here are scared of their own shadows.
