eco vs 5.0
#61
What's better, a Honda civic or a Toyota corolla? lol
Seriously, I think it's just a matter of taste and needs.
You tow a lot? Go with the 5.0. You like the sound of a V8 because you think it's manly? go with the 5.0.
You don't tow a lot and like a quieter engine that's more fuel efficient? Go with the EB. You like the turbo whistle? Go with the EB.

I agree. If i was towing enough to justify the 3.5, i would have ordered it instead of the 5.0. For the 2-3 times a year i actually drag my trailer someplace i'd rather have the 5.0 myself.

What the F150 is rated to tow, vs what it's actually rated for after all options, packages, & weight in the truck is a different story. Look at this chart OP & find your truck's configuration & what the ACTUAL max tow capacity is for it. I'll bet it's NOT what the MAX spec is like the 5.0 is rated to tow.
Fords tow rating for my truck is 10,800 lbs. My GCWR is 16,200 lbs. My actual truck weight from the factory is 5,110 lbs. Of course, use the industry standard anorexic man weight (driver) of 150 lbs. That gives my truck 10,940 lbs. 16,200 - 5110 = 11,090. 11090 - 150 = 10,940.
Now take away my extra, real man weight, my tonneau cover, tools, and my bedliner and my actual tow rating based on the more accurate GCWR is 10,755 lbs. !!

When you get off of these yuppy sites, and go talk to people who tow a lot and get their hands more dirty, most feel stopping is more important than racing with a trailer. The 5.0L offers much better engine braking and doesn't overheat as badly. But hey, the 3.5L Eco is the little engine that could.

You're right, my truck's actual tow rating is different than Ford's tow rating. The actual is MORE.

This 300lbs is not reflected inthe GCWR.

Beer, Boats, and Trucks.
These threads attract some of the dumbest responses. Here's the truth. I have a 5.0 and my dad has a 3.5 EB. We tow a bunch of different boats ranging from jet skis to 30 foot 7,000lbs boats. The 5.0 gets the job done, it struggles to find the gear it wants, downshifts on any type of acceleration, and is sluggish. The 3.5 pulls hard, never hesitates, and I never once have the thought cross my mind that it is struggling (which is the only thought in my mind with the 5.0 screaming and slugging around with the larger boats). The EB is built for towing, Ford has said it, reviewers have said it, the numbers just simply prove it. I am still amazed that anybody is still arguing that the 5.0 is a better towing engine, its just asinine.
