EB 3.5 with rod through block at 10K - Livernois tune
#22
BGG is correct. Ford demanded my dealer to do what they call" tear down to failure" to figure out why my engine threw 2 rods through the block. One on each side.
And once I posted what happened, a lot of people blamed the tune that WAS on the truck 6 months ago. Even this "one guy" I won't mention his username, that didn't know what a "blow off" valve does and went on to plug in to do the VTA mod, went on and on sayin all kinda of stupid stuff about tunes and how they ruin engines blah blah blah. So be glad ford got u covered man and enjoy ur new engine.

I'd also like to see some pics if you have them.
Just to confirm, you created a forum account today to share your story as a service to others?
I ask because I'm confused with your intent - You first blame the tune but then concede you're not sure that was the issue. So what is the message you're really trying to get across?

I'll bet he isn't blaming the tune itself, but the lack of concern from the tuner. At least that's what I read out of it.

Yep any tuner can result in engine damage
One must data log. Livernois is not special and they will have engines blown with their tune. So will other tuners. Data logging will greatly reduce risk.

Stage 3 sells warranties for 5 star tunes and they suggest going back to stock for maintenance, but leaving the tune in place if something happens. They will contact the dealer to see who ends up covering the work. I've only seen one thread with one warranty claim discussed, and they said it was the only one they've had.
Not sure tunes are actually throwing rods left & right, as suggested.

Glad they agreed to warranty the engine. This must be an unfortunately more common issue than we know (that doesn't mean one in four engines goes, but maybe 1% or so are showing issues) for Ford to sign off on the warranty replacement.
As was mentioned earlier though, they can definitely see that a tune was on the truck if they decide to check. I am pretty amazed they didn't.

Just FYI, when a rod is thrown, it's not always from the instantaneous failure...given this guy's happened during regular driving means it was probably at the point where the stress failure finally gave way. Could have been too much boost with too much timing, could have been an oil delivery failure, who knows.
