e85 vs. regular gasoline
have had my truck for about a month its an f150 supercab 2017 with 5.0 engine. I was wondering if there was any downside to using e85 in the truck its about 50 cents cheaper per gallon than reg. unleaded. will using this cause me any problems down the road or a loss of performance? I do understand that I will ge 2 to 3 miles less peer gallon but is there any other downside?

I think you'll see more than a 2 to 3 MPG loss. Mine was almost 6 when I tried it in my wife's Escape.
If you're going to use it, try to run your tank as empty as possible. Same as when you go back to E10.

It doesn't take long for E85 to go bad if it sits in your tank unused. Also its not too uncommon for stations to use something more like E60 or 70 and advertise it as E85, but that wouldn't really be an issue for a truck, more so the crowd seeking the performance advantages of E85.

On the 11-14 5.0, running e85 alone would net you a 15 hp and 10lb of torque. Not sure what it will gaine on these newer 5.0s. Havent used e85 on mine yet.

You will gain a litttle power but lose about 40% fuel economy. If t saves you 50 cents a gallon, you won't come out ahead. Also, it's harder on the engine oil so more frequent changes are needed.

Trying to figure it out!
E85 will need to be 25% cheaper than regular gas to make it cost effective to run. It takes approximately 25% more e85 to get the same results because of the BTU rating. If your vehicle is specifically tuned for it you can have great power gains just not great MPG.

If you are looking for peak power from fuel, try mixing premium and E85. You can do a 50/50 mix, but that is even too much octane to use. I like running 20 gallons of premium and topping the rest off with E85 (36 gallon tank). Takes away some of the shortfalls with E85.

E85 by me is $1 less per gallon. I run it in my 16 Mustang GT. I get horrible mpg of course but cheaper price is pretty much a wash. Not big gains NA. With boosted setups the gains with a good tune can be huge. Allows for much more aggressive tuning!
