It only makes the noise when the tires have lost traction, and spinning.

I have spun my E-Locked 3.55's quite a few times in my 2015. Deep snow/ice. Never had it make a sound, smooth and quiet.

The issue you are having is somewhat common (as common as one can speculate from the forums). I remember reading quite a bit about it over on the ecoboost forum when I had one. I do not think anyone ever figured it out, but there was a few with the issue.

I have scoured these 2015+ forums and have not seen a reported case. Lets just hope it is not an issue

I understand and I've just never heard any sound out of either of mine, even while doing donuts in the dirt Sorry you're having trouble with yours.

Well, let's hope they corrected it then. I'm fairly sure its caused by access play in the spider gears. Because of tolerance difference, some previous gens have the noise, others don't. I expect my tolerance is on the high side, causing play between axle shafts causing it to slam, and rebound, continuously. My 13 is being traded in, just hoping my 16 doesn't have same noise
