Default E-Locker Banging

I have a 2013, and have a factory order in for a 2016. Both have the E-Locker. Question: Has anyone with a 2015+ noticed a loud, violent, continuous banging noise from the differential, when spinning (no traction) the rear wheels on a slippery surface (grass, mud, snow, ice), with the e-locker on?

I'm not looking for suggestions on what the noise is, as it's been thoroughly discussed previously, just want to know if people are seeing this problem in 2015+ generation.

I'm hoping nobody needs to respond.

I think that's just the nature of how a locker works.

After listening to it again, it almost sounds like it's not engaging fully. Might be something to check out.

It's been pulled apart 3-4 times at the dealership, and no issues found. The locker has even been replaced. 3 different dealerships have tested the lockers in comparable trucks, and they all bang like crazy.

I'm just looking to see if anyone in this new generation has a banging locker.

I've used mine a couple of times on a wet boat ramp and no noise at all. My 2013 never made that noise either, that sounds bad!

Same for me. My E-locker on my 2015 doesn't make any noise. Didn't have any noise on my 2013 either

Not sure if the Ford E-Locker is similar or not, but here's a video of an Eaton E-locker in action

Wow.

The issue of having it apart and replaced by the shop and they have found nothing is a real head scratcher...

It certainly sounds as if it is jumping out of engagement inside the differential.

The video shows the wheels are on icy pavement so dry pavement wheel hop or chatter, like cornering on dry streets with rear locked would give a hop, tire chatter, but the situation you have surely sounds like the locker is skipping a tooth inside the pumpkin.

I don't know what to tell you given you say it has been apart and replaced...

Tough call. Do you know if the shop ever pulled the axles completely out to check the splines on the axle shafts, or just pulled the out enough to get the rear center out?

Possible bad splines on an axle... If the diff itself has been out and checked, the axles would be the only other thing I could think would give you that kind of noise.

A long shot, but with the circumstances what they are, might be the cause.

Good luck!

(God, I hope that's not normal...I just ordered a '16 with the 3.31 elocker...)
