Question Dura Trac tires for new truck. Next size larger or not?

New truck ordered. 2019 F150 super cab 4X4 with sport pkg. I plan on replacing the OEM 275/65 R18 tires with LT Dura Trac tires. I am staying with the factory rims and not doing a leveling kit. My question is, would their be any down side to going with one size larger tire which I assume would be the LT 275/70 R18? Any input or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks.

The only down side I can see would be the 275/70/18 are E-rated and would ride firmer than your stock load range C tires. If you went with 285/65/18 they would be load range D which would ride a little firmer than your load range C's but not as firm as load range E's. The 285/65/18 are 32.8" and will work without a leveling kit.

NASSTY, Thanks for the reply. I did look at the 285/65/18 but the specs say it should be on a 8 to 10 inch wheel and it is my understanding that the sport wheel is 7.5 inches so I didn't know if it would be a safe fit.

On my 18 Lariat stock rims have Toyo AT II's in 285/65 R18 and fit the rim great. I did get a 2 in level kit, but wouldn't need it from everything I've read/heard. I just wanted it a level looking when I got the tires.

I loved the Duratrac on my 2012 F150 with stock rims. Now I have the 2018. I went to get the Duratracs again but ended up with the Wrangler Ultraterrain.
Stock tires were 275/65/18 the new ones are 285/65/18. Also, the Ultraterrain are E rated and only slightly more expensive than the Duratrac SL rated.
I live in Colorado and drive in the snow a lot. These have been excellent in the snow.

Good Luck,

To those of you who have gone with the 1" larger than stock diameter tires. As far as how it looks in the wheel wells, was it a noticeable difference?

I went from 275/55/20 to 275/60/20 but same overall size you are looking at.

I think it fills the wheel wells a bit better. It's not a huge change though.

The 285's fit the wheel well so much better. Will you lose mileage? Yep....about 1-2 MPG with an E rated 285 I have found. However...I would never go back to stock size. They look too small. I also like the E rated for going into corn fields and going down level b roads a lot around the Midwest. They do not rub at all with no lift in any flex of the suspension.

I went with the 275/70/18 duratracs in a "E", they just look normal to me now. You will see a hit with mpgs though, be prepared for that. What I like about this size is it's a standard tire size for a 1 ton, so easy to find.
