Go with the ecoboost - you'll love the power & realize loud exhausts on a pickup were a thing of the past.

Thank all the mythic gods for your prognostication...but, LOUD exhausts rule here in the hands of immature teeny-boppers and their junked-out vehicles.

Is somebody really gonna buy a truck based on the SOUND of the ENGINE? Wha?

(sigh)

Engine sound is exhaust-muffler centric. Don't like the sound, change the can.

Based on this, which motor is best for me? I am pretty sure I want to chip this one, though I have never chipped a motor before.

Please, advise.
Dude there's only one choice if you want what you want. It would be the 5.0l.
If you try to modify the exhaust note of an EB equipped truck, you'll just end up with a truck that sounds like a pissed off bumblebee. It just doesn't go well with a V6. Do a YouTube search and listen to the clips, it's hilarious and pathetic at the same time.
Fwiw, you'll get the same mpg out of the V8 as well. You won't have the low end "kick in the pants" power because of the lack of turbo. But the 5 .0 still makes good HP. Chip it, pipe it, enjoy it. And if you really want to squash the EB fanboys, and almost everything else, supercharge it.
Get the 5.0.

However if you REALY want growl and outstanding V8 power your going to have to look at something other than a Ford. Unfortunately Ford doesn't play well in that arena anymore. They are taking things in a different direction.

Good luck!

I have a 5.0 that is straight piped and yes it is obnoxious and fantastic all at the same time. That being said other 5.0 people may hate on it, but I think that the Ecoboost turbo whistle is pretty damn cool when you set it free....

I have to admit I really like the sound of the 5.0. can't help it, maybe when I grow up I'll move past such trivial things.

My Stainless Works exhaust sounds like a Grand National.

BTW, you cant "chip" it. Havent been able to use a 4 bank chip since 2003, they all use reflashes through the service port.
