Don’t waste your money on Apple CarPlay

Thank you. I thought I was losing it looking all over the place for this app for use in Canada. I have to say I really think Ford has completely botched their Apple Car Play integration. I rent a ton of vehicles all over the world and am shocked how easy most of them work. Seamless and no back and forth from factory to CarPlay unlike my new 2018. Very disappointed with my "upgrade" to my 2018 and this is one of the reasons. Funny enough the loss of ambient lighting colour control is another...
Lots of people rave about Apple but I loathe how their software is engineered. I got the iPhone from work and the rest of my family has iPhones so it's handy for us to track each other - if not for those things I'd have an android phone in an instant.
I suppose I could see if my Samsung tablet would work, but it's wifi only so I'd likely have to get the data plan from ATT/Ford, something I don't plan on doing as I have enough monthly bills to pay without adding yet another..

This is why ford+ Alexa app is better than Apple CarPlay.
1) Alexa runs in the background. So your home screen is still your factory navigation. Alexa is only visible for your music spot on the upper right box on the 8in display. Bottom right is still your phone.
2) Alexa acts like Siri, but instead integrates into factory navigation. So you say “Alexa, navigate me to ...” and it uses factory navigation.
NO NEED FOR PANDORA, so you can ask Alexa to play a song. My 2 year old loves Eric church’s “Springsteen”, so when I get in my truck all I ask is Alexa to play it. THATS THE BEAUTY OF AMAZON MUSIC.
I really hates how when CarPlay is active, you lose your my-sync home screen. Instead of your navigation all you have is a large blank screen with an arrow in it. I like the my sync home screen better than apple CarPlay PLUS with car play you lose outside temp. Come on!
this is a no brainer I can go all night

For my needs carplay sucks. I will give this a try. Is there tutorials available? Most everything I see is from a year ago when it was first announced.
I will need to hold off on an opinion until I get some kind of training. I went out an tried a few commands but starting the Alexa app seems to also start the Pandora app which I don't use. I want to switch from asking Alexa a question back to listening to my Sirius radio when the question is answered but it takes way too many button pushes. The app screen says Alexa is running but as soon as I change the audio source to the sat radio it quits.

Love Turbo V6 & Coyote V8
I tried android auto when most didn't have it yet. Truthfully, I actually just liked the factory sync 3 system better. The only thing I wish Ford would do is free map updates or any map updates at all. (that is the good thing about carplay or android auto, the maps were always up to date).

Incorrect, when connected to Sync, the map is pulling in the background even though not active. I traced my data usage and found 6% data used for maps even though I never use them, and the only answer was the time it was in Car Play mode. Months prior to using CarPlay I had 0% map usage in the data.
Started using Alexa yesterday, Alexa, play some Rock music, and started playing one of the stations I normally listened to via Carplay. This morning I said, Alexa, play WLSAM890, and the AM station I usually listened to started streaming via Iheart Radio. I also like that the home screen is back with the moving map. I have no need for Google maps, or Apple maps since I use a Garmin Nuvi with up to date maps. So much more to explore with it, pretty neat, much better than Carplay.

I do agree that CarPlay is a must for any new car though.

i have sync 1.0 w/o nav...what are my options for any of this? i downloaded the app from the app store and it states 2.2+. Im really not interested in carplay as i've seen too many peeps that just aren't that satisfied with it.
