Disappointed with my '16 F150 so buying another SD
I am really disappointed with this F150. Towed a Polaris Ranger and RZR on a 24' aluminum trailer from Texas to Colorado. First of all Intake Air Temps ran so hot that the truck keep pulling timing due to heat soak. (I saw it pull 3 degrees). The new smaller CAC is a joke. Sure it runs hotter to help stop condensation but if you have no power what's it good for? Second it nearly went into limp mode as we saw the temperature gauge get into the yellow a couple of times.
This F150 is 600 to 700 lbs lighter than my previous 2013 F150 King Ranch eco. The good news is I get about 2 mpg better fuel economy in the city and unloaded hwy and about 1 mpg better towing (not sure if this is due to the weight savings, the 3.55 instead of a 3.73 or both). Bad news is the truck is not stable while towing. I put LT tires on it which helped a little but it still sways way more than my '13 F150 did with the same trailers.
These trucks may be rated up to 12,200 lbs of towing but from my experience if you plan on going to the mountains or in the heat/humidity they are good for maybe 5000 lbs. If you plan on doing much towing you will need to look into an aftermarket CAC.
I am sure I will get killed on depreciation from having it a year but I have no use for it and will be ordering a 17 SD next week.

Just a few weeks back, towed my track car on a 20' open trailer. No problems whatsoever.
But I used 93 octane fuel for the tow.
You should love the SD for its better towing capabilities.

I put a 4 wheeler in the bed and one in the back of my 23' toy hauler. Load up the toy hauler with all the camping supplies etc. trailer is 6000lbs
Pulls it like a champ. Up the steep grades where I go barely gets a rise out of the temp gauge.
Before this truck I was pulling it with a F350 Powerstroke. Can barely tell the difference except the 350 was not nearly as comfortable.
How does one know it nearly went into limp mode?

I believe a small amber wrench will begin flashing on the dash.

I'd love a '17 F350 Lariat but unfortunately won't fit in my garage, and I live along the weather belt. Lots of hail and such. Need my garage.
Best of luck with the new SD! Should be a great truck!

Actually no. The truck didn't manage the load. Folks who had the previous generation are sometimes very disappointed with how the new style performs.
