Deployable running boards
#11
Just open the door and unplug the running board motor, squirt some dielectric grease in the plug ends and tape them up to prevent contamination problems.

If I'm parking the truck and getting something out of the back on the same side, I either do it quickly or leave the front door slightly ajar to prevent the board from retracting. I'm not really concerned specifically about the motors burning out, but I tend to minimize unnecessary cycles on any piece of equipment when I can.
This one bothers me about zero.

I have a buddy who has a Platinum as well, but no computer. I am asking for him.
He is concerned about the motor wearing out. And after having mine for a couple days I can understand his concern. They could deploy 10 times while cleaning your truck for instance. I guess the trick would be to leave one door on each side open until your done.
I asked on the Forscan thread and the answer was "no". So my friend is out of luck.

Other than that, I don’t worry about it. I wouldn’t expect the motor to wear out any time soon....kind of like window motors. I expect it to run forever.

Not sure why anyone would want to drive with the boards deployed. I’ve only seen one person do that while driving (not sure if he rigged it or something broke) and it was pretty low to the ground. Just increases the chance of getting expensive boards damaged.
As for those cleaning the inside of truck (which mean you’re parked) just set the boards to remain deployed. Do it all the time, even when doing a quick pressure wash.

Maybe check on here for threads about their motors dying....I don’t recall ever seeing one. Surely, there is one or two, but it it can’t be common ....because there would be tons of threads about it if it was common.

I've wished I could deploy mine a few time while driving down gravel roads to keep rocks from dinging the side of my truck. I cringe everytime I do. My tires stick out just a tad from the fenders and my mud flaps don't help much either. I do agree that they stick down too far for typical driving. I wish there was an option for them to deploy automatically when you put the truck in park or lock it or something along those lines to help guard against door dings.
