In defense of the 2.7 ecoboost

Perhaps in absolute terms, but not in relative ones, at least in my case. I went to the 2018 2.7 from the '11 5.0 for its right sizing given my towing needs, coupled with everyday best of breed economy. That was a major factor in keeping me from seriously considering a Ram where the only real choice was to go with the Hemi and 4-5MPG penalty, per fuelly, over the 2.7.

You must have missed in my post IMHO, which means, "in my honest opinion" I was referring to the power as felt at the rear wheel when test driving the two. The acceleration felt very comparable MUCH to my surprise, as I was expecting the 2.7 to be much slower than the 5.0. but my test drive proved "TO ME" differently.. I am not saying that the 5.0 is a bad choice I took the totality of all the options in to consideration when making my choice.. I do not go by numbers on paper alone when making my decision on a vehicle purchase..

Perfectly happy with my 2.7 with the 3.73 rear end and locking differential. Honestly, I think its bad *****. I drove the 5.0 on a rental, not sure what all the fan boys are so crazy about, it was not as engaging and the 2.7. 28k trouble free miles.

i have no problem with any engine anyone wants to buy .. what i do however is call people out on saying they picked an engine for fuel economy or budget reasons .. you can't budget on gas .. gas prices go up and down .. people take trips unexpected .. etc .. someone said they bought a 2.7 because they wanted one.. it was the best answer i heard.. no excuse.. no bs reason.. just straight up.. thats why i bought it .. i bought a 5.0 for power potential .. when i bought my Audi S5 in 2014 i took it over the v8 RS5 because with a smaller pulley and tune it ran high 10's low 11's while the RS5 was still stuck in 13's
i'm not buying the whole bought a 2.7 for 1-2 mpg less than a 5.0 or 3.5 that's just stupid

In 2017 I left the first dealer I started out at because they only had the 5.0 V8 in the color I wanted. After driving F150's with the 2.7Eco, 3.5 Eco and 5.0 Coyote, I liked the way the 2.7 felt the best. Found my "Bronze Fire" 2.7 Ecoboost XLT 4x4 at another dealer and purchased it! I can afford a Limited with everything on it, but I prefer to live well below my pay grade when making major purchases.

In 2014, when I ordered my 15 XLT the 2.7 was the only engine I wanted. The truck had the technology, all aluminium body, a specifically designed engine for this application, Start/Stop, etc with the capability of over 20 mpg. I had never driven one but that didn't matter to me because knew of this engine during its development. I did have some other basic requirements 4X4 & respectable gearing to pull itself out of a wet paper bag. I was tickled pink when it arrived and the performance it gave us. With the 6 speed transmission I drove it for mileage (fuel economy). I didn't want to be OCD about it either. Coming back from Michigan the best I was able to attain was pictured below.
Hand calculated, the truck took 12.802 gallons for 25.238 mpg. Driving on the interstate at 62 mph with cruise.
Why did we trade it in for a 2018? Reason 1. The Mrs did not like the big key fob 2. the 10 speed transmission. 3. Dual zone control to make the trips more enjoyable 4. passenger seat with all the bells & whistles. We lost this truck to a A-hole driver on Christmas evening after only 9700 miles so I was not able to compare the 10 speed against the 6 speed. On the 2nd of Jan. I found our current ride to take advantage of Ford's zero % financing, it doesn't have a 2.7. Some folks may not understand the reasons why others love the 2.7 . Same reason why others don't understand why someone would buy a vehicle for its color or sound of a V8.
