In defense of the 2.7 ecoboost

Honestly the 5.0 just didn’t have the pep on my 30 minute test drive that the 2.7 did and it was $2K more. Had I liked the 5.0 better I’d have one. I preferred the way the 2.7 drove. Yes I went in with the 2.7 in mind because I like the design and reputation of the engine...not to mention a couple friends of mine have them and swear by them. I wanted to like the 5.0...I gave it a good chance because I loved the V8 I had in my Ram. I think they are all good motors, even the little 3.3NA, so to each his own. Which is the actually better engine is in the eye of the beholder. Enjoy your 5.0 and go!

this is the response i respect.. plain and simple.. it was cheaper and does what i need it to do.. plain and simple .. no MPG here .. no blah blah there.. real direct and to the point.. i have no issues with the 2.7 i like it.. i think its impressive .. i just feel people need to stop making excuses why they bought one and just be direct like you are
I owned a 2014 fx2 3.5 ever (3.31 rear end). When I bought my current 2016 xlt (3.55 gears), I honestly didn't look at the sticker enough to realize it was a 2.7. I hadn't really been paying much attention to the 2.7 hype and didn't even realize it was a thing in thetF150. When I test drive it, It felt every bit as fast as my old truck, only quieter and more refined. After realizing it wasn't the 3.5, I got irritated for about a minute, then realized I still loved it and didn't really need the 3.5. Either way, that juicy low end forced induction torque made me happy, much as I suspect it would with anyone else that went out and drove all the different engines.
If/when I buy a new one in a couple years I'm probably going to have to do some hard thinking about which engine I want. They are both great (disclosure, I have 2 fleet 5.0s at work that I find to be a little less pleasing to drive, so I guess I can be added into the EcoBoost fan crowd). I think forced induction is a little more usable in a variety of situations, altitudes and temperatures.

I don't understand why the need to go through great lengths to defend an engine... drive them all and pick what suits your needs.. everyone needs are different.
for me, when buying my 2018 I drove the 2.7 and 3.5 back to back... both 10 speed... the 2.7 did not do it for me... it felt weak (to me) vs the 3.5... I went 3.5

Even more shocking is people buying vehicles not knowing what engine it has....

I’ve always thought a full size truck had to have a V8. When I started looking for a new truck a little over a year ago I saw that Ford put a 2.7 L turbo in their trucks and I thought it would be a powerless waste of a truck. I’ve driven many cars with tiny turbocharged engines that were badly underpowered. I started searching the Internet and everything I read and videos I viewed showed just the opposite. When I test drove one with a six speed I was floored. It was smooth and powerful. Now it’s my favorite vehicle to drive.

that's why to each their own... I respect your comments... my company has a 2016 2.7tt 6 speed and I find the trans as sloppy as my own 2015... to each their own

I had 130k on a 13 3.5Eb 6 speed
i have 7k on a 2.7 10 speed
i have 7k on a 2.7 10 speed
Both screw, both 4wd
The 2.7 seems to have more throttle response especially in sport. In normal it goes pretty easily, in sport it wants to go and go ...it surprises me how much it will go without flooring it in sport mode. I don't drive in that mode much for mpg reasons but it's fun. I have not yet to date missed the 3.5 6 speed once... the 2.7 for me is more than capable
