Default Default SPORT mode...Yes please!

Ok, so if you follow the Forscan thread allot of us have hoped for default sport mode but nothing has been found to make this possible yet. I decided to try and come up with another way. I am happy to report that I finally had time to dig into it and have successfully completed this mod. I was able to get the sport mode to default on startup and keep the ability to still use the button to change modes when needed. This is relatively simple to accomplish and cost me less than $10.00. Now before I go into details let me say that I cannot recommend you do this, if you choose to do so and anything up to and including your truck burning to the ground and burning your house down with it I cannot be held responsible for loss of life or property. This write up is strictly for amusement. Ok now that we’ve satisfied the lawyers.

The first thing I did was pull the center console cover off to reveal the shifter harness. I tested the wires and found the wires that go to and from the mode switch. I found that it is a simple momentary 12v switch, one side is hot going in and the other side is 12v out when the button is pressed. This was great news because it meant we could use a simple 12v controller to simulate the double press of the button or double pulse. I did not want to connect at the shifter because of the constant movement of the shifter and having to ensure the wires didn't get caught up in the moving parts so I traced the wire to the connectors behind the glove box and found a good spot to do the connections. Once I knew I could control the modes with a 12v source I ordered this module: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
At the time I ordered it was $7.85 and thats all I spent on this mod.

This is the location of the connectors behind the glove box:

and this is the connector we want:

If you disconnect all three connectors you can pull the harness out through the side trim and have ample room to work:

The wire we want is the brown wire with green tracer:

The module is programable for many different functions, for the purpose of this mod we want mode number four. Programming the module is very simple, before making any connection I opened the hood and used the battery to do the programming. All you do is turn the switch on the side of the module on, then I used alligator clips to hold the BLACK wire on the negative post and the RED wire on the positive post. Then simply touch the BROWN wire to the negative post four times to select mode four. Each time you touch the brown wire you will see an LED on the module flash once. After you touch it four times to ground wait a few seconds and you will see the module flash four times to confirm the mode you selected, then after a few more seconds it will flash rapidly to tell you programming is complete. Now turn the switch back to off and remove the wires from the battery. Programming is now complete. Here are the instructions for the module: http://content.etilize.com/User-Manual/1011230044.

Now for the connections. The black wire will go to ground, You can use any ground, I used a bolt that was exposed when you removed the side cover earlier. The blue wire is the 12v output and will connect to the brown wire green tracer shown above. The red and green wires will be connected together to a keyed switch. Since the fuse box is right below its the easiest place to pick up a keyed source. I used the top left #10 fuse for my connection:

Thats it. You will not use any other wires from the module. The only thing left is to test and then secure the wiring and module with zip ties behind the glove box. The way I described will default to sport mode however I believe you could use one of the other modes to do a single pulse to default tow mode if you needed.

good job and great write up! My only criticism would be that you are filming vertically which is a cardinal sin...

Nice write-up! Did you do an add-a-fuse for the red and green wire for fuse #10?

I actually already had tapped that fuse in the past for other accessories so I connected to a wire I already had on it. But yes I would definitely fuse it to be safe.

Not sure on *** as I don’t have it with the 5.0 but if that’s the case this mode would be an easy way to do both in one shot.

Great and I think that is the fuse I have already tapped for my 10 way power seat I added to my XL. Thank you for sharing this modification with the community!

That's awesome. Unless I am missing something it wont work on 10spd trucks though because sport mode is 5 presses I believe. I have normal, tow, snow, eco and sport..

Yes it will, if you program the module with 5 taps. Unless the module doesn't go up to that number, then order a different one that does.
