Sport mode does the same in my 2016 6 speed. That’s just how the sport mode works. I don’t like how it hangs onto lower gears either, I would use sport mode if it wasn’t like that.

I KEEP posting this same nugget:

It's a jointly developed transmission with GM.....whatever problems arise, they will be dealt with swiftly. Beginning with the 2019 model year, they will be in something close to 1.2 Million trucks per year.

Like others have said in Sport mode, it's suppose to rev and be at higher rpm. aka thats why it has more getup when you step on it...

I never buy vehicles in the first year of anything if I can help it.
The 10sp didn't come out this year. The 2016s have them, when equipped with the 2.7EB.

From my point of view, this is also normal. Anyways, keep us posted about what the dealership will say.

Just because 131 trucks don't have any failure doesn't mean the rest of them don't.

It's been said but for the whole story

sport mode is designed to do a number of things. If applied the way GM did it - it's also tied to things like steering wheel input, wheel speed, as well as gear, acceleration (actual from the accelerometers used in the airbag system), brake application if any.

Such as to know to hold the gear after letting off - because you are riding out a curve, if you get too slow while letting off it pre selects the next gear down. etc.

so it will drive unlike a normal automatic and will do the things a sports car driver will do if they were in a manual equipped car. So don't be surprised when it acts different in sport mode that's part of the game. It's spelled out in the manual I believe.

On the hang ups 3 and 5 - assuming they are on the same set with the same clutch pack - it is possible some were built with the clutch plates and the free plate stacked wrong. GM had this issues in some 6L80 and 90 transmissions as well as some of the 8L90. It's simply a matter of it assembled wrong - and it doesn't release the clutch between gear rings as smooth as it was supposed to - but it still works.

Honestly I wouldn't want the dealer to try to rebuild my transmission either - I'd rather they R and R the assembly as there are special tools needed to build the new trans correctly.

Mine would stay in 1st gear, rpm goes up then truck jerks forward almost as if its in sport mode. This is pulling away from the driveway with light gas pedal pressure.
