Default Dealership: "We are ripping out a lot of 2017 10sp transmissions"

So my wife dropped off my truck this morning. I had called and talked to the service desk on Saturday. I have the 2017 3.5 10sp Lariat 4X4 - 5000 miles. My transmission - especially 3rd and 5th gear - is pretty bad at shifting - both up and down. Also when it does shift into third it lunges forward as well. There is a lot of other bad shifting as well, but those are the two worst gears. Also in sport mode it just hangs in gear forever before upshifting even if I take my foot all the way off the gas.

My wife said the guy at the dealership this morning basically said, "probably a problem. there aren't any parts available. we are just having to replace the whole transmission on these. having to rip out a lot of the 2017 10sp to fix"

So perhaps here begins my own transmission saga. At least the dealer sounds like he is being upfront at the beginning...

Mine does the exact same thing since the weather has turned cold. It is only noticeable when pulling out of my driveway in the morning. It seems like only happens when it is cold and on the initial up shift. Now the 5th gear, sometimes it clunks when going in/out of 5th gear. Coincidentally, I think I started noticing these issues at approx. 5000 miles too. I have over 6K now.

This 10spd news is very bad!!! Going into the Mustang now too... hopefully design issues get figured out soon.

mine has always done it. Cold or hot ambient temps and cold or hot truck temps. Does it all the time.

Just dropped mine off at the dealership this morning because it's making a loud whining sound everytime it upshifts after the transmission has warmed up to operating temp. Less than 400 miles on it, too!

What do you mean ''lunge forward''? If you're talking about the ''push'' you feel, it is normal to feel your Ecoboost engine doing that in-between gears even your foot is no longer on the pedal, especially between the 1st and 3rd since there is still some boost pressure left generated by the turbos (from the acceleration of the first gear) when it shifts from the 1st to the 3rd.

The regular transmission mode does not (never) operates both 2nd and 4th (it jumps from 1-3-5, then 6-7-8-9-10.I find it very annoying myself when I'm in the traffic... I put activate the tow haul or sport mode so I can go into 2nd gear instead, when so.

As for the Sport Mode thing, it is normal for the transmission to take more time to shift between gears.

I find that the trans fluid likes to warm up first. My first couple shifts in the morning are much firmer, but once that fluid warms up a little bit, it's all good.

Yes- I get how the transmission works - skipping gears etc.

With sport mode, with my foot completely off the gas it will stay in the 4-5k RPM range for 10+ seconds before shifting.

I hate when people put subjective statements in social media, like "We are ripping out a lot of 2017 10sp transmissions". How many is "a lot"? In what period of time? Versus how many are on the road? Is this any different than any other year on a BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION LAUNCH?

I never buy vehicles in the first year of anything if I can help it.

I have 131 10 speed transmissions in F150s in a Fleet application with zero failures. Some are approaching 60K miles.
