Daily Commuter 150 miles +

I bought a beater a few years back when I had a superduty. I drove 70 miles round trip and thought it was a good idea to have a car and use the truck to pull and play on weekends. Everyday I felt like I couldn't allow myself to drive the truck I loved. It wasn't worth it. I drive what makes me happy now. But, my car was actually a beater. Old lumina with 150k on the clock, got it for 500 bucks.

I thought about it and could live with the 5.5ft bed if I got the 2.7 Payload package and tow package.... ended up with 1777lbs payload and I could live with that and drop the tailgate when needed. My city driving is now 19.5MPG and Hwy is 25MPG and with the 2004 it was 14/17MPG on good days

Can't you keep your current truck for your side business and just pick up another car?
Don't get a beater. Purchase something new or a yr or two old as long as you are comfortable with the job change. I'm for the second vehicle. I can put the 3-5K per year towards a nice toy....(boat, atv, etc) and be just as happy.

I needed to haul my tools around with me, so I needed a truck. There isn't the option of a beater car for me. I purchased my truck on 3/28/16 and will have 10k on it by this weekend (planning to do my second oil change).

A commute that long is horrific. Use the vehicle that at least makes that drone bearable.

I use mine for the commute, I drive about 120km and I wanted the comfort and reliability that I get with my truck (especially in winter). Yes there is a cost to drive the truck as a daily ride but I ENJOY my truck and don't mind putting km's on it (although others would). I didn't buy it to let it sit and be used on the weekends.
OP, you should do whatever makes you comfortable and drive what you enjoy.

the truck will last way longer than any car and be more comfortable for hours and hours of traffic. I run mine to 400,000 miles easily. I think the 3.5na will be the longevity champ in these trucks. Less options, less to break if you are keeping it for a decade. i have 40,000 on mine and haven't spent any repair money yet other than maintenance. The aluminum truck won't rust. Get the 36 gallon tank and build the truck for efficiency and you are good to go.

Thanks for all of the responses. Commute shouldn't be too bad, only 1.15 hours each way. And all highway so I'll get maximum mpg's out of the truck. I haven't ruled out a car for the ride, but at 6'4 300lbs a car is going to get uncomfortable. An Escape is also an option as they do well on gas.
