Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
I apologize if this was already asked... but a lot to read through now. I tried the update this morning on Non-Nav version. I have a 2016 F150 running Sync 3 version 1.0. When I attempted the first part of install, It runs for a few min then fails saying not enough storage or not compatible version. Any thoughts?
Theoretically could one do the update now and then after ford releases it themselves do a master reset and dl the update from ford making it appear that the unofficial update was never done? Or will the history always be saved in owner.ford?

If your system is connected via WiFi, Ford already knows you upgraded. To downgrade you would have to find the 1.0 image, and load that. You would be testing to see if it's even possible and would work. It could brick the unit. But you're never going to find the 1.0 image, so no worries.

I was at my dealership this weekend and asked about the hardware upgraded required for my 2016 F150 and to a T they all said they have not received any information from Ford as to what the upgrade will be and when that info may be available.
My apologies - I have not read through every page of this thread, are others hearing the same from their dealerships / service departments?

I successfully upgraded my non-nav system last week and had a great time using Android Auto all weekend while driving the wife around shopping. Thanks a million to users like jm061 who contributed and led us all through this. I did encounter a couple of issues that I was able to get past so I thought I would share those details for those who follow behind.
I have an early '16 XLT 302A that was running 1.0. After downloading the 2-part update I unzipped the updates. At the time I just had a single older 4GB USB thumb drive, so I ran out to the truck and followed the readme instructions to perform the first update to 2.0, waited for it to finish and then replaced the files on the USB with the second part and performed the same, again following the instructions about powering down, etc. Both updates ended with a success message.
After the update I did notice when checking the version it displayed it was still 1.0, but others have noted that it can take a while for that to update. I plugged my phone (Android: Samsung Galaxy S7) in and nothing magical happened. It still acted just as if it was still running 1.0. Honestly at this point life got busy and I ran out of time to tinker so I just left it this way for several days. The version stayed at 1.0 for three or four days until yesterday.
Having some time to test further, I bought a couple new 32GB USB drives and put the 2.0 and 2.2 upgrades on separate drives and ran them both again. The first upgrade ended with a status that it could not perform the upgrade, but the second update did complete successfully.
Also based on some posts in this thread, I swapped out the USB cable I was using to connect my phone for the Samsung USB cable that came with my phone.
I do not know if it was the new cable, using newer/faster USB drives, or re-running the 2.2 update which fixed my problem, but some combination of these did the trick and everything is working perfectly now. I hope this helps others out if you experience the same problems.

So part 2 was also successful! I confirmed I now have version 2.2. I am hoping to use CarPlay but suspect I have to upgrade my USB module. I contacted my local service and parts department at Ford and of course they have no idea what I am talking about. Does anyone have the exact part number from ford for a USB module for Car play on a 2016 F150? Thank you all for all of this info!
