Okay, I took your advice and I'm now in the v2.2 club. I did the same thing as before but this time I reformatted the drive on the second update and everything went just fine. Thank you very much!
Here's a few suggestions in my v2.2 update experience:
I'm using a MacBook Pro laptop. So it's my understanding that Mac users do not want to unzip the zip file because it won't extract the file correctly. Thankfully I also have Windows 10 on a Bootcamp partition which is what I used to unzip the zip file. That's when I was able to see the three files within the zipped main file. It is one readme file and two update files. I followed the directions in the readme file except for one thing. I had to reformat my thumb drive a second time when I did the second file update. After that, everything went through without a hitch.

I'm at 2.2. Brought up Google maps. unimpressed with Amazon music and Google play music since there isn't a way to play from my library, at least on the screen. and the voice commands aren't working to well.
That I don't know yet. Thats what I am going to see.
Used the $9 trim tool set from harbor freight, got it out fine but only seemed to release from the right side, took a lil force. After right sides out, just pull it out.
I'm rooted, on 6.0, works fine. Clear data on your android auto app.
Are you running a stock based rom or an aosp based rom like cyanogen mod? I had to switch back to a stock rom to get it to work.
I'm running Cataclysm, which I believe is AOSP. I did get it working.
I had to make sure I was using the following:
USB debugging: ON
USB Config: MTP
Cable: OEM only (Moto, with Fast Charge, in my case)
My other generic USB cables seem like they just can't maintain the transfer rate or power requirement. I'm not sure which.

In the options tribar icon in the top left corner of the Sync screen when in the music app on, I am able to select the playlists attached to my Google account. Is this what you're looking for, or something different?
Voice commands work fast for me, but they are limited. It's not full Google functionality it seems.

I am pretty sure that either of these files were ONLY for 1.0 and 1.1 versions and do NOT try to update a 2.0 to 2.2.

????? I went back to page 50 and I didn't see do not DO NOT INSTALL THESE ON A 2.0 sync3. Only a warning that the download link was for the "NON NAVIGATION" unit and DO NOT try installing it on a NAVIGATION unit and vise versa....unless I totally missed it?
