Actually, mine doesn't actually shut off until I open the door. If I simply turn the truck off, the radio will stay on until I open the door.
Do you mean opening the door immediately after opening the door has shut the radio off, or even after the truck's been off for a while? (Just curious as there are lots of things that I've wished worked without the key before, but I understand the safety reasons they make it so)
You know how the SYNC3 stays active for 12 minutes after you turn the keyoff. After the first file was successfully uploaded, I shut the engine down and opened the door till the display cleared. I then waited the 5 minutes before proceeding to disk 2. I have not read of anyone having a issue, but I wanted to make sure that the SYNC had shut completely down and I imagine that the 5 minute wait is to make sure that the voltage has bled from the circuitry. All I can say is adding the door step did not effect my install and it went smooth from start to finish. Richard
I am happy to announce that you can add one more successful installation to the list!
I upgraded my 2016 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7L EB 4x4 SuperCrew using the information provided in this thread.
The truck came with SYNC 3 v1.0:
(SYNC 3 Version 1.0 before upgrade - VIN# removed from photo by me)
After installing the software provided in this thread:
(SYNC 3 Version 2.2 after upgrade - VIN# & ESN# removed from photo by me)
Finally, here's the screen I've been waiting to see since the moment I purchased my truck:
(Android Auto Setup Screen)
I have not spent a lot of time with the upgraded SYNC 3 head unit, as I just installed V2.2 this morning, but I can attest that the software works as intended with no issues or bugs to report. All buttons, on screen controls and features function properly after upgrading. The instructions were easy to follow and the entire process took less than an hour.
Thanks for the fantastic share! - KC9WPE

Even after the truck has been off for awhile, if I open the truck with the keypad, not the key fob and press the power button on the radio, it'll turn on. I don't remember being able to do this before the update but according the other posts who replied to mine it is normal. Don't know.

Hmmmm....interesting. To be honest, I haven't even set up the keypad yet. I always have the fob in my pocket when I'm going out to the truck so not sure I understand yet when/why I'd need to use the keypad but that's still pretty interesting.
I'm guessing you're probably still safe, unless it just won't shut off at all. It'd probably take at least a couple hours to run the battery dry on just the radio alone if I had to guess.

This is a link to the files to upgrade to SYNC 2.2
Remember you risk permanent damage to your SYNC unit if you don't follow the README to the letter. You travel at your own risk! ! W5TXK - Richard
Remember this update is for "NON" NAV SYNC3 systems presently running Version 1 or 1.1
I'm afraid to install the update from the zip. Went yesterday to check the wifi update, and it simply won't refresh. I've done a master reset, and have tried 3 different wifi access points. I'm getting fordpass mileage and fuel updates, so maybe Ford took down the update server for the holiday break? Anyone else not getting an updated time/date from their truck?
Hmm, over my head, you may be right that Ford may be working on their server. This would have been a good time to do that with people off today for the holiday. I'd wait a few days before I drew any conclusions. By the way the zip update is for NON nav units only! I see in your photos you have nav so you would not want to do the update anyway... Right, but there is a zip for people WITH nav too. Too scary seeing that "_PRODUCT" on the end of the 2.2 build number. That's probably enough for a Ford dealer to see that vehicles have been updated with an incorrect build and void the warranty
