can anyone help me out? I got the first part of the update in and got the message that it was installed and to shut the truck off. I did I went in the house erased it and put the second part on went to the truck turned it on and plugged the usb in and I got the message at the top saying it read the device but It never said updating in process or anything so I went back in and re downloaded the file unzipped it again and reinstalled it on the usb and re tried and still nothing. truck says I still have original 1.0 software
I'd say that is unlikely if they are being diverted to 2017 production requirements.
I'd also expect Ford parts corporate to sell every last single one of them, as soon as they possibly can.
"Make hay while the sun shines" as it were and order more when needed.
Then they have to look at the possibility of making a big resupply order and getting stuck with excess stock that may not move for another 10 years in normal service replacement requirements.
Again, the disclaimer is this is only my personal opinion.
Personally, I say if someone is looking/wanting to "upgrade" to use carplay then just bite the bullet, pay the money and order a USB port while you can.
At least then if Ford releases ver 2.2 officially (unlikely if they can't sell you the hardware at the same time), you would have the hub already.
I'm glad I've got one on the way, but it wouldn't stop me from enjoying the truck if I didn't. I bought it for transportation, not a media experience. All I need for media is some music from time to time, a clock in the dash and to be able to talk "hands free". As long as it runs and functions properly as transportation, everything else is just a minor dissatisfier to be worked out.

Since it was not released through the Ford's official channel I can see them saying that the V2.2 wont be covered under the manufacture's warranty. What's going to happen when we start noticing trucks with some type of computer glitches that are because of this boot legged copy. I'm glad that you guys got yours to works, but as a guy that spent 15 years testing DoD equipment to include software, I will just sit back and wait for Ford to release the official copy therefore if their is an issue Ford will cover it under my original warranty.
Thank you JM061 and everyone who has posted tips and info.
Upgraded without a hitch, once I used a quality USB cable.
My wife and I are Android users but I have a replacement USB hub (blue) on backorder with Walt Sweeny just to future proof my truck.
As a new owner and a new forum member, I am enjoying this forum almost as much as my truck.
Thanks again.

Popped the new hub in today.
Carplay hooked up and is running fine.
The only problem is: Carplay sucks!
I'll be keeping the hub, but using the Sync and siri (no that I figured out it was notifications turned off that was messing up text accessing).
The music app is fine, but google maps sucks for interface as far as I'm concerned. I prefer the 2D map in Sync. Google jerks and has fits trying to keep the map orientated to my direction of travel. It also seems to randomly zoom and move whenever if F'n feels like it. Typical google crap. I also prefer the destination finding in sync. Google maps/siri can't find crap.
With carplay running, I also lost voice control over sirius. Manual tuning only. No more voice commanding like "sirius, 100".
I know some guys love carplay, but I won't be using it. It sucks IMHO. I hate being hemmed into what someone else thinks is the best way. Give me at least some configurable options ferchirstsake! I like having capability to interface with apple devices though, even if I don't use it. Perhaps it will get better or a better apple program will be released for car use.
I popped open the "old" hub. As I suspected, the led's are SMD. I could swap them out for the blue, but it's not worth the trouble and risk of buggering up both untis. White is fine. I keep the compartment closed anyways.
Also, I can't remember if it was in ver 1.0, but I can change the colors of the interior lighting in the truck...
