Voice commands finally work again! I had a 8GB EMTEC USB drive when I did my first install. After talking to artiepen and jm061, I went out and bought a 16GB SanDisk (on sale for $7 at Walgreens) and reinstalled the first update file. I am very pleased with the install and would like to once again thank you both for helping me out.
Also I receieved this email from Bobby at Walt Sweeney Ford Parts:
"As of today there is no update as to the availability of Carplay module you ordered. The message I received is "supplier is past due, working on ETA". I did receive 125 of the GJ7Z-19A387-B modules if you would like to switch over your order. This module is 0.35 cents less expensive and the only difference is the one we have in stock lights up white instead of blue. I apologize for the delay and will update with availability as it comes to me."
Any opinions on the white USB lights? Do they really make that much of a difference?

Here's a couple pictures to compare the white hub lights to the rest of the center stack. I didn't realize before that the little storage area for the phone/USB is actually lighted, so that white light sort of washes everything out. I always keep the door shut, even when my phone is connected.
Just saw this... figured I would share for those in the thread poll that are choosing to wait for Ford to release the update. lol
Ford's Official Status on Sync 3 Updating to Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
Dec 22 2016 - 4202 - 2016 Ford And Lincoln MKX - SYNC 3 - Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Upgrade Not Currently Available
Some owners of 2016 Ford and Lincoln MKX vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 may inquire about upgrading to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This upgrade is not currently available for those vehicles. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are currently available only on vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 v2.0 or later. This upgrade for 2016 Ford and Lincoln MKX vehicles will be available in 2017.
Dec 22 2016 - 4203 - 2016 Lincoln - SYNC 3 - Apple CarPlay And/Or Android Auto - Customer Pay Upgrade Available
Some customers with 2016 Lincoln vehicles (excluding Lincoln MKX) equipped with SYNC 3 version 1.0 or 1.1 may request an upgrade to their SYNC system for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality. This upgrade requires SYNC 3 version 2.2 software to be installed for both applications to function. In addition, Apple CarPlay requires a new Media Hub/Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub to be installed. For correct Media Hub/Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub part number refer to the Ford Catalog Advantage (FCA) web version of the parts catalog. The software and hardware upgrade is not covered under vehicle warranty.
Looks like Lincoln gets preferential treatment... or maybe because the USB Interfaces are like rare gems right now for most of Ford's models.
On that note... thank you JM061 for making it available early

Can someone tell me what page the download files are on? I didn't see anything linked on the first page.
Will I be able to upgrade from Sync 3 v1.0 to the 2.x? The first page says no...
Can I use Android Auto with my stock USB? I've read that AA doesn't need the new USB and that it does. Can anyone clarify please?

My only concern that it isn't just a parts issue that they're holding it back for...that there isn't some bug that we haven't seen yet that is making them hold it. Anybody have any insight?
