Sync 3 isnt available until the 2017 model year on export models. That's not what the dealer told me, but that's for a different thread.

Funny enough, when I pull a window sticker for that VIN it lists "Sync 3" under "Functional Equipment".

Been trying to read all of these threads, but honestly can't figure out where the hell to even start.. Just got 2016 last week,, how do I check what version I have? Where do I go from there? Sorry.. Been trying to read up but can't even figure out where to begin for the Apple car play...

You need version 2.0 for Carplay. If your truck was built in July - now, then it most likely has it. Then you need the USB hub to enable the Carplay.
