Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information

As much as I would like to have Android Auto in my 2016 Platinum, I am choosing to wait for an automatic update. If that never comes, I'll just be satisfied without it. For me, it isn't worth all the headaches I have been reading about in this thread, and the potential expense of a new APIM. I will check back periodically for updated info. Thanks to all who have told their update stories. You guys are more ambitious and braver than I am. :-)
MoTiger - I had a tough time, but I would still recommend you try the update. For me the update was pretty easy, my biggest issue was getting the Ford Website to work/be available... I was having issues with my Sync3 prior to the upgrade, and thought the upgrade might solve some of my issues, which was the reason I was in a little bit of a hurry. The upgrade was simple for me once I got the files from the Ford website. The update did not fix my issues because I had a bad APIM. I do not recall anyone messing up their APIM from doing the upgrade from the Ford site. My APIM was damaged prior to me purchasing the truck, so the update had nothing to do with my having to replace my APIM.
I am not sure if there is any truth to this, but I was told that for the auto-update to work, you have to have full WiFi strength in your truck. My phone said it was full signal strength, but my truck showed 1 from full signal strength and it would never download or start the update. That is why I had to download it on a USB drive and do it manually. My update worked even though my truck shut off in the middle of it, which maybe I got lucky on that part, or possibly it did it super fast and was already complete before it shut itself off, who knows? But I still would recommend having the latest software that Ford wants you to have.

After seeing this thread the other day I took the plunge and upgraded the USB hub in my 2016 F150 XLT Crew Cab so that I could enjoy carplay. The process was extremely simple, even the guys in Ford's design department put the USB hub in my vehicle in a place that only people with elf size hands can reach. Anyway, I got the part at the local ford dealer and managed to swap out the hubs in the parking lot using a flat blade screw driver. Took less than 5 minutes and it works great.
One unexpected benefit is that the new USB hub seems to have resolved a number of Sync 3 issues I was having. Ever since upgrading to version 2.3 I have been experiencing regular lockups, "the mobile device is not available" errors, etc. So far everything is working great with the new hub. Crossing my fingers it stays that way.

I have whatever the latest officially released version is on my 2016 F150.
In Carplay, if I try to answer the phone via the steering wheel, the screen flickers and it doesn't pick up. I have to manually tap the LCD in the centre console to pick up a call.
Hanging up works fine.
I didn't notice this issue until after the update, but I also had a iOS update at around the same time, so I'm not sure which is the issue.
Anyone have a similar problem or heard about this?

Ford Pass/SYNC Connect question...
Wife just got a 2018 Escape with Sync Connect. Today the Ford Pass app wouldn't start the vehicle. I assume the app is only as good as the current condition of the phone (restart the phone, check for app updates, ect). Has anyone had Sync Connect issues and found consistent resolve? Even when it was working, it seemed to take almost a min to start the car after pressing "start" 10 feet away.
Im in a major metro area so service shouldn't be an issue. She is not currently hooked into our wifi. Not sure if that has anything to do with it
