I doubt it's really a hardware issue. A non nav apim receives the same data as a nav apim. Both have a GPS feed in. It's why you're able to just to swap the Apim out and boom you have nav. To me it seems like it would just be firmware. To say you can't enable nav using forscan is false. I've done it. Hell you can do using easy mode on forscan. Just sync 3 complains about data missing. Sync 3 doesn't have a separate module like sync 2 did for map data. It's all in that APIM. Now I could be way off here but maybe someone smarter than me could tell if I'm smiling crack or not.

They are physically different. NAV apims have built in memory for the navigation data/maps (takes the place of the SD card in stync 2), and non-navs do not have that partition.

You could only enable nav on sync 2, not on sync 3 (via forscan).

Is this link for non nav? I downloaded a non nav a long time ago and it worked flawlessly, but then the truck must have downloaded the real update and now Android auto doesn't work and my voice commands say not ready. Anyone have this problem, I tried downloading the same update says complete but still does nothing.

I used a PNY 64GB USB 2.0 formatted in exFAT like several have mentioned here, I didn't have any problems with it. It took about 20 minutes to do the initial upgrade, shut it off for 5 minutes and turned it on for another 3 or so for the maps to reload once upgraded.
