I did the update from 1.0 to 2.x along with the USB hub replacement last weekend. I have both a Nexus 5x on Google Fi running Android 7.1.1 and an iPhone 6s with iOS 10.x.
I actually prefer Android Auto because it gives you a landing page with weather, notifications and a mini map where Car Play just displays a full screen home or whatever app you are in. I did notice that with the iPhone plugged in, I did get the "Too much current' message from the USB hub where I did not before.
I'm really happy with Sync 2 and have even seen a reduction of SiriusXM dropouts in known areas while waiting on getting my antenna replaced.

Thanks!
Update installed with out a hitch. Thanks to who ever it was that made this happen!
Yesterday I made the switch from an iPhone 7, which after having an iPhone since the 4, I think the 7 was the worse made, I had nothing but issues with it, so I picked up a Google Pixel. Had a mild heart attack after loosing Siri Eyes Free in the truck, and difficulties getting music to play easily.
The Android Auto solved all those problems and seems to be working great, I have used carplay before, but google maps alone makes Android Auto Pretty Sweet. Not that carplay isn't nice! The bonus is that I am really enjoying the Google Music Interface.
Thanks!

Just wanted to show my thanks to this forum and the info it has provided on this so far!
Was able to manually download the 2.2 update from the internet and install it in a two-stage process per instructions (first part took 15 minutes, second part took 10).
Part GJ7Z-19A387-B was ordered from Walt Sweeney Ford for $62.30 shipped. I had some plastic pry tools and was able pop out the old USB unit just fine. Again, please realize that the internal cables are short so you don't want to just go yanking the thing out.
Anyway, the pic below is what i get when I plug in my iPhone 7 Plus now. To anyone on the fence about doing this, it's a really easy and relatively cheap upgrade. Love having maps on my non-nav sytem.

OK.. After a couple of weeks on V2.2 I have a few observations...
1) Steering Wheel Heat soft button on climate control now has a different look. It now mimics the hard buttons for the seat heat with a red square indicator versus the whole soft button turning blue before.
2) The Passenger zone temperature setting is always displayed regardless of the mode (Dual/Single controls)
3) The Android Auto handshake with my Lollipop-equipped LG G4 is still a little wonky. I have to acknowledge the connection on the phone and enable MTP mode each time I connect. This is OK with me b/c I will only use AA for NAV when I want live traffic (Sirius Traffic is a joke) on longer road trips.
4) The volume controls are a bit laggy with AA, but not unacceptable.
5) OK Google search is _ON POINT_ thru AA. Controlling NAV destination, music, etc. is seamless.
I think that's about it.
Pet Peeve: AA does not display the exterior/interior temp. YOu have to exit AA mode and go back to SYNC3 to see that. :-(
BTW - For those thinking that the interior color controls are a new feature in V2.2, it was there in my truck from the start.
Andorid Auto is a nice option to have for live traffic and up-to-date navigation... Otherwise, SYNC3 is all you need.
