Just saw this... figured I would share for those in the thread poll that are choosing to wait for Ford to release the update. lol
Ford's Official Status on Sync 3 Updating to Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
Dec 22 2016 - 4202 - 2016 Ford And Lincoln MKX - SYNC 3 - Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Upgrade Not Currently Available
Some owners of 2016 Ford and Lincoln MKX vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 may inquire about upgrading to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This upgrade is not currently available for those vehicles. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are currently available only on vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 v2.0 or later. This upgrade for 2016 Ford and Lincoln MKX vehicles will be available in 2017.
Dec 22 2016 - 4203 - 2016 Lincoln - SYNC 3 - Apple CarPlay And/Or Android Auto - Customer Pay Upgrade Available
Some customers with 2016 Lincoln vehicles (excluding Lincoln MKX) equipped with SYNC 3 version 1.0 or 1.1 may request an upgrade to their SYNC system for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality. This upgrade requires SYNC 3 version 2.2 software to be installed for both applications to function. In addition, Apple CarPlay requires a new Media Hub/Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub to be installed. For correct Media Hub/Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub part number refer to the Ford Catalog Advantage (FCA) web version of the parts catalog. The software and hardware upgrade is not covered under vehicle warranty.
Looks like Lincoln gets preferential treatment... or maybe because the USB Interfaces are like rare gems right now for most of Ford's models.
On that note... thank you JM061 for making it available early

My guessing below!
Of lincoln owners 50% care less, many probably still have flip phones. I think ford is expecting less than 1000 cars to actually be connected to wifi and upgrade, even less looking for carplay or AA. Lincoln is a smaller group of cars with a even smaller part of them tech savvy in the least.

Well, that pretty much sealed the deal for me upgrading now instead of waiting. I had been holding out, but now....
My only concern that it isn't just a parts issue that they're holding it back for...that there isn't some bug that we haven't seen yet that is making them hold it. Anybody have any insight?

This is what I find interesting about the 2.2 release.
The software and hardware upgrade is not covered under vehicle warranty.
What is up with that? If they provide the software why is it not covered under warranty? Not speaking of us here who jumped on the unofficial release.

It looks like I made the right choice with upgrading last night, thanks to the guys who shared the file. I'm not sure if this was covered yet or not but after updating, my factory navigation maps would not load. I had a short moment of panic and I went back in the house to check that I downloaded the correct file. When I restarted the truck a second time the maps were back up and everything was working great.

I had a feeling they wouldn't release it this close to the holidays. The fact that it is available for some Lincoln vehicles means its close. I wonder though if they are going to backtrack on it being available as a download though. If it really will be a 2 part upgrade for non nav units I see a whole lot of people screwing that up just based on what I've seen in this thread.
For me it was very simple, but I'm in IT. I have people who use a computer every day and wonder thy they can't open a pdf in excel...... If it's not a fairly automated process it will not be released as a owner installed upgrade period. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just using my personal experience dealing with users for over 20 years. Even if it's click here, select USB drive, remove and plug it in your truck a lot of people will manage to mess it up. If it's a 2 step I would not want to be one of the poor souls Manning the phones after release.

Sounds like the extracted files folder layout could be wrong... should look like these screenshots:

I'm considering doing the 2.2 upgrade for my 2016 non-nav Sync3 v2.0 XLT.
Ok, I may be dense, but the upgrade files on the Fusion site link for the non-nav appear to be collected in one folder. Are these files for use on one USB drive in one pass?
Or, do we need to download for the non-nav from one of the other links, and do the upgrade in two steps?
