Default Crappy Rear View Mirror

My new 2017 SCab rear view mirror is wavy on the surface, not flat. Not too noticeable during daytime driving, but when flipped into the nighttime position it looks really bad. Headlights and other illuminated objects ripple across the surface as they pass, it's really distracting. Are they just cheaping out on a low quality mirror glass? The wife's 2015 Escape mirror is the same way. Is there anything preventing me from putting on a higher quality aftermarket mirror? Suggestions?

No issues with mine. Would suggest you take it into the dealer to show them and see if they will replace it.

Just spitballing, but is there a clear protective film on the mirror that wasn't removed?

Get a new one from the dealer regardless. This is not normal.

I had similar issues with the left side mirror glass. It seems to be an issue with the electrochromic/auto-dimming stuff. I would see "ghost" images (2 headlights looked like 4). After a bit of a fight (Ford wanted pictures... sorry, doesn't work that way) they capitulated, replaced the glass, and all is well. You likely have the same issue.
